Secondly, Amnesty for Boko Haram fighters was first offered by President Jonathan and rehabilitation of “repentant” fighters started under his administration in the office of the National Security Adviser.

Thirdly, I was in Chad last September and there are currently about 2,200 “repentant” fighters in Chad. The country is presently working to set up a rehabilitation programme for them. They recently paid a visit to Nigeria to take lessons.

Fourthly, there are also “repentants” in Niger and Cameroon. Niger started a rehabilitation programme last year while Cameroon is putting finishing touches to commence one. I have interviewed facilitators in Niger and chatted with the Coordinator of Cameroon’s.

Fifthly, the fighters executed in Chad were executed after they’re found guilty by court. There are currently fighters in prisons being prosecuted. If they’re executed without trial, you and I’d start saying wrong & illegal (& it’s) In fact, you’ll use it as a talking point.

Sixthly, your claim that BH is dying in Chad is palpably wrong. 2019 was the worst year for the country since BH started. They have already recorded many attacks this year. See @ACLEDINFO data.

Seventhly, the rehabilitation programmes in Nigeria and Niger are supported both financially and technically by the USA, UK, EU, etc. If you say Buhari is soft on BH, are they also? If it’s you say it’s because Buhari is sympathetic to BH, how about them?

To conclude as I started, I’m not a fan of BH (and don’t take my word for it; check my track record over the years), but I think it’s problematic to politicize every single issue on earth. To spin old news just to make an unfair point is a disservice to our country.

I took time to call you out cuz as some1 who’s being personally affected by BH, as some1 who’s studied the group for long, as as some1 who’s doing his best to contribute to defeating it, your politicizing it is deeply hurting and disrespectful to the thousands of lives lost.
