1. A few thoughts on "resisters" tweeting that South Carolina doesn't matter because it is a red southern state with older/moderate voters that we won't win in the general anyway: That's not the point. But your erasure of black voters IS a point that everyone should note.
2. Let's state the obvious first: We should have a 50 state strategy. We should be competing in every state. But set that aside for a moment. The primaries are often the only venue where black Southern Democrats have a chance to raise their voices within our Democratic Party.
3. With the primaries being one of the few venues where black Southern Democrats can raise their voices within our party, if you're dismissing Biden's win in SC, you're also erasing black voters, the base of the party, on a day we commemorate Selma.
4. If you're committing the erasure of black voters on the day we commemorate Selma, You should check yourself & your "progressive" "resister" cred.
5. The primaries are not the general. That's why it matters when folks vote in US territories and Wyoming. No one said "oh it doesn't matter" when Obama and Bernie added to their delegate counts in places like Wyoming or when Hillary won Guam!
6. It is about the ability to contest everywhere possible so you add to your delegate haul, but also appeal to a diverse array of constituents because it is that demographic coalition that will help you win in Nov.
7. The profile in South Carolina gives a sense of the profile in other tipping point states like Georgia and North Carolina, which should be treated as a swing state now.
8. You know what else helps us in November? Down ballot. So if you're Joe Conningham in SC's 1st congressional district running for re-election or Jaime Harrison running for Senate, South Carolina in November MATTERS regardless of what some resister dude on Twitter claims.
9. While I am at it, let me note that the person at the top of the ticket matters to Doug Jones. He is going to need every black Democrat in Alabama to be re-elected. Resister Dude's "wisdom" = writing off Doug Jones' senate seat. Take that in and take it seriously.
10. So for all these reasons and more, you should side eye any privileged progressive resister who erases the black vote in the South, just so they can prop up their favorite for the nomination.
11. You should ask yourself if they really understand people of color who make up the base of the party, and if they really understand electoral politics up and down ballot. / - fin -
