Why we shouldn’t be afraid of it, why it’s important, what it could look like, what WE can do TODAY to start
It’s much better to move forward w this in a calm, orderly way instead of lockdowns all over the place
#Covid19
We need our healthcare system working. All of us,all the time, whether or not we think we are at risk with #Covid19
We love our families & friends & want to help keep them safe.
We want to resume ‘normal’ life ASAP after crisis is over. That means minimizing damage now
Who here wants their local officials making terrified, panicky knee-jerk reactions -that may be counterproductive- because all hell is breaking loose and they feel like they need to do “something” *RIGHT NOW*
Not me that’s for sure. I know a lot of them 😉
They can carry & transmit it though, and this being a new virus we don’t know (anything) for sure - that kids in every different population will be at lower risk
Childcare is an issue, but who will care for them if adults are all sick?
Serious question.
In a pandemic safety & minimizing disruption is important, in that order.
We have to accept that isn’t going 2b perfect
With volunteers similar cost, same benefit, lower risk
Politicians respond to public pressure, flood their phone lines w logic & reason!
-can work fr home? Do it now
-maybe work fr home? Talk to employer now & try
-cant work fr home? (Service/retail) be as safe as you can on way to work. Private car- is safer than car pool- is safer than public transit.
Less people commuting is less exposures for all
Can you - wear gloves? Have more distance between co-workers & customers? Do some things by phone, online? Have tele meeting instead of in person? Sanitize high touch surfaces often?
Can you- minimize areas that are public? Provide hand sanitizer for customers? Q tips for touching interac? A greeter to open doors w a gloved hand? Deliver or mail out more instead of customer pick ups?
Be creative - what can you do SAFER
Less contact=less risk
More work fr home=less crowding on public transit. Maximize space between people. Don’t touch what you don’t have to & your face/phone. Carry hand sanitizer & sanitize as soon as you’re off.
Buses etc, push local authorities to have them sanitized daily
Minimize # of shopping trips, go on off hours, get it delivered if affordable/available.
Use private car if you can. Help your neighbors - especially those with young kids, seniors, immune-compromised. Help them stay home by picking up for them too. Safer
What can you do safer. You know your life
Some ideas-Open auto doors w knees. Carry & use qtips for interac, touchscreens. Carry & use hand sanitizer when out & about. Leave phone in pocket in public if possible. Tap instead of cash. Do more w less trips
Keep outside shoes, coats near door. Sanitize shoes if poss, esp bottoms.
-wash hands, change into something comfy, put clothes in bin/washer, wash hands again lol
-sanitize high touch surfaces daily- door knobs, light switch, chair backs, tables, counters, sinks, etc
Because family can get infected too
-don’t share food & utensils. Wash hands often during food prep. Sick ppl shouldn’t cook for family if poss.
-use paper towels or dedicated individual hand towels for each person. Wash daily
-sanitize toilet, etc daily
-wash hands before & after toileting (in public too!), close lid before flushing
- store tooth brushes out of bathroom, individually
Handle wastebaskets/garbage carefully, wash hands. Like we haven’t heard & said it a million times I know
Important but not right now. All large gatherings & public events, venues should close. A concert, sports game, etc can’t be the priority right now.
Fun isn’t worth people’s lives
There is going to be economic loss no matter what, let’s priotorize safety
Call your local authorities and ask a ban be put in place now.
If enough call they might listen.
If you have tickets already you can choose to not go.
Talk to church ab suspending/webcasting services
Postpone community group meetings/events
-if you think you hv #Covid19 & not very sick stay home, call local health #, follow instructions.
- if really sick seek medical care promptly. Call first if you can, follow instructions, wear mask if you have one, think of others too, minimize risk
- adopt a granny, at risk neighbor, help where you can as safely as you can.
-contact local emergency volunteer coordinator. Find out what needs doing & where you can help. Get on their list if able & willing.
If you’re high risk & want to help make it no/low contact. Can you call to check up on people? help coordinate remotely?
Remember you help everyone best by staying safe.
Every contact lessened is a benefit to all. Doing these things we can probably cut our collective transmission risk by 50% or more & still keep the world mostly functioning.
We all hv a responsibility to keep our health system working, to help & protect each other
-call local auth & demand specific social distancing measures now. Don’t yell - do something!
Stay calm & talk about what’s important to you. Already said this but politicians respond 2 public pressure.
Let’s give them some 🙌
Modify your life-be safer. Be kind
