1/ We’re trying to decide whether to ride out the virus in Mexico City or go back to LA now or soon. I’d appreciate a little help making the decision 👇👇👇
2/ Only advantage of staying is that we can completely self-isolate in our apartment since we both work from home, and it’s possible that there’s not as many cases here (though there’s not much testing)
3/ Cons of leaving are that we’ll have to go through many high risk places, like CDMX airport and LAX, Ubers, and wherever in LA we stay for the time being

WFH tip: absolutely use a "text expander." You should never type common info like your phone number, email address, or website more than once. Examples:

$e = my email address
$z = Zoom personal mtg room link
$r = specific red of my brand
$tw = twitter proflile
$pf = blog footer
I use "snippets" feature on @alfredapp but I know @TextExpander works well
Other examples (work-related shortcuts start with $ which you can set in the app):

[first letter of first name]@f = teammate email address
$basb = Bldg a Second Brain course website
$n = email newsletter signup link
!v = paste in plain text
!d = today's date
#p = phone number

~ Write of Passage update ~

My business started less than one year ago, and I've already taught more than 500 students. The 4th cohort began last night, with ~200 students from more than 20 countries.

My story, with some lessons from running my business.
In 2017, I took a class called Building a Second Brain by @fortelabs.

It's the most impactful career decision I've made. Armed with a note-taking system, I could focus on creating ideas instead of memorizing facts and working with computers instead of competing against them.
In November 2018, I called Tiago and pitched him on an online writing course. I had first-hand experience of the transformative benefits of writing online and wanted to share my philosophy of writing in an online course.

I pitched him for 2 minutes, and he immediately said yes.

This is a thread about @RoamResearch, a web-based app which I've started using for taking notes and organising knowledge. I would say that anyone who uses digital notes would find it useful to take a look at the app. My only connection with Roam is as an enthusiastic user. 1/
@RoamResearch I was set up with a Roam account by founder Conor White-Sullivan (@Conaw) in August 2019. I then spent about 30 minutes reading the help resources and playing around with the app. 2/
@RoamResearch @Conaw It looked interesting but, as I felt satisfied with my note-taking process in Evernote, I wasn't motivated enough to explore any further. 3/

We are working on solving an internal (and external) problem of remote work where a lot of meaningful discussions are occurring that just slip through our hands like sand.
Instead of large group meetings, we are having smaller conversations around the ideas and nature of the work we are doing and how we can help our clients achieve stronger desired outcomes.
Which leads to this rather overwhelming issue of SHIT LOADS of video.

So we are taking the video artifacts and consistently filing them (we pay a lot for Dropbox unlimited storage), summarizing the video, generating machine transcripts, and cataloging in Notion.

I’ll be teaching two courses with @fortelabs this summer. Students will learn how to turn ideas into results by publishing online.

I used to hate writing. Now writing is fun for me. I used to have terrible writer’s block. Now I have *too much* to write about.

Taking Building a Second Brain is the best career decision I’ve made.
