Sen. Burr responds to my piece from this morning.

You can read the story here:

Burr says: "This lunch was hosted on Feb. 27 by the North Carolina State Society. It was publicly advertised and widely attended."

The Tar Heel Circle is a much more exclusive part of the NC state society.

NC State Society membership: $25.

Tar Heel Circle: $500-10K
Senator Burr here conflates the Tar Heel Circle with the much broader NC State Society

The NC State Society membership costs (left)

Tar Heel Circle membership costs (right).

It was the Tar Heel Circle which organized the luncheon that Burr spoke at.
What I wrote was:
"Despite his longtime interest in biohazard threats, his expertise on the subject, and his role as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Burr did not warn the public of the government actions he thought might become necessary"

Sen. Burr's argument here is to blur the lines between his personal duty to warn the public of his assessments of a coming health threat, and whether others decided to the warn the public.

Sen. Burr calls my story a 'tabloid style hit piece'

But! You can judge for yourself in print and Morning Edition interview:

or an All Things Considered 4:30 piece:
