Matt Gaetz chose to demagogue (on Fox and on Twitter) one particular, tiny appropriation in this massive aid bill, the one for Howard University, a historically black college. Now why, just why might that be? Gosh, I wonder.
To be fair to Matt, he also singled out another part of the bill as well, which again, is just so mysterious as to what sort of person he thought would be angered by this.
I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Gaetz invited a notorious Holocaust denier to attend the 2018 SOTU address with him. theguardian.com/us-news/2018/f…
And also totally a coincidence that Gaetz's speechwriter (who maybe had input into this messaging?) is a guy fired from the WH because of his close ties to (and apparent affinity for) white nationalists. thedailybeast.com/matt-gaetz-hir…
The guy on the right is the person Matt Gaetz sought out to invite to attend the SOTU. The guy on the left is Spencer, the dude who led a crowd in a "Heil Trump" salute during inauguration weekend.

I've long found it incredibly galling what unsympathetic interpreters of their opponents American conservatives have been. They just lump everyone together into some incipiently totalitarian monster called "the left," cherry pick a few examples and stay ensconced in their bubble.

The funny thing is that just yesterday her husband, an editor at The Federalist, published a piece by an MD (who hadn't practiced medicine in 25 years) saying that people should have Covid-19 parties where they contract the disease for the common good. Spare me.

Some crude math to give you a sense of our priorities as a nation. 3.28 million people (far more than ever in US history) filed for unemployment last week. It would cost about $30 billion to give each of those people $3000/month for the next three months.
If the 10 richest Americans paid that bill, to help 3.28 million of their fellow citizens survive the next 3 months, they would have to each chip in $3 billion. That would mean that the poorest of those billionaires, #10 on the list, would have to scrape by with only $48 billion.
In a normal investment climate, a $48 billion nest egg should produce at least $3 billion PER YEAR just in interest.
