Conversations are quite odd during this period. It's not just that they're conducted remotely. It's that no-one is actually doing anything.
'What have you been up to' becomes a fairly pointless question. They have been doing what you have been doing: fretting, cooking, watching telly, feeling sightly distracted and anxious.
The things you are both into - sports, politics, comics, films, whatever - have stopped. There's just covid and the response to it to talk about.
The same is true for people who work in the same area as you. You might have once gotten together to gossip about people or talk about issues you both face at work. None of that happens now.
Keeping in touch with people virtually is crucial. We need to regularly socialise or we'll go nuts. But we should accept that it's a little weird - and not just cos we're seeing them on a screen. It's that a large part of the typical content of a conversation has been removed.
