This is the latest in my weekly threads about my recovery from #coronavirus/#COVID19, to give fellow survivors a sense of what it's like. Standard disclaimer: everyone is different, #YMMV.

(Last week: bit.ly/2VMCd9G.)

I was discharged from @NYUlangone on 4/1. So today, 4/22, marks three weeks out of the hospital.

How am I doing? Pretty OK! Some things better than last week, some things worse, some the same.

Metrics:

Morning vitals: temperature 97.6, pulse 119, oxygen 95.
Weight: 152.6 pounds (+4.2 from 4/15).
Average walking per day: 0.9 miles (no change).
Incentive spirometer: 1000 ml (no change).

No fever for several weeks now. Oxygen levels fine. Resting pulse still high (tachycardia?). Walking and spirometer metrics unchanged. Back to my pre-sickness weight (although with less muscle).

Voice not fully recovered, but getting there, maybe 8/10 (last week was maybe 6.5/10). I did less talking in the past week and declined interviews. I'm hopeful voice will return to normal soon.

The thing that's worse is that my cough has returned (to the extent that it went away; not sure it did completely). It's worse at night and sometimes involves wheezing, phlegm (not a dry cough).

Part of me wonders whether the cough, accompanied by some fatigue, could be a minor relapse of #COVID19. But it could be something else (exacerbated by my recent illness). Allergies? Asthma?

I still get very winded/short of breath I get from low-level activities like walking. It's hard to tell if this symptom is getting better or not. Maybe it's about the same as last week.

(The cough and shortness of breath are why I'm holding off on making another blood/plasma donation for now. Generally they want you to be symptom-free for 14-28 days before donating.)

I continue to get good sleep (maybe 9-10 hours) and to have a good appetite (back to my pre-illness weight, so now I guess I need to watch my weight). I feel energetic and mentally sharp.

Bottom line: I'm glad my voice is improving, but the worsening of the cough is frustrating. Recovery is often "2 steps forward, 1 step back," and maybe this week was a "1 step back" week.

P.S. I should stress: I'm not complaining! I'm so glad and grateful to be alive.

And I was told in advance that recovery is a process, one that could take months. So it's all good. :-)
