The lesson from this allegory has wide spread applications & interpretations in the current day but I would like to apply it to the existential crisis of Hindus in this 21st century!

The story goes like this –
Imagine a group of prisoners in a underground cave who have been chained there since they were kids and they are tied in such a way that they can’t move. All they can see is in front of them – the back wall of the cave with the entrance behind them.

Suddenly 1 prisoner is able to escape from the cave & goes out.
At first he is not able to see anything as he has never been exposed to sunlight.

He slowly discovers the real world and is shocked as he realizes that his former understanding of the world was completely wrong..
He has an intellectual awakening & finally returns to the cave to present this view to his friends who have been chained.

He tries to tell them about the truth hoping it would set them free but they get upset as he is trying to change their opinion and start hating him & threaten him. They are happy in their ignorance and oblivious state as they feel that is the ultimate truth

Apply this to the state of present day Hindu – they are one of the most confused people. Their education is like a cave – completely taken over by the Macaulay system which preaches that only Western views are scientific and advanced.

The schools & universities are either completely LW or missionary led. Their fellow hindus, in this peer pressure to appear cool and liberal have rejected the sanatan dharma.The older people also equally if not less clueless as many have chosen only to pursue their career
and chosen to neglect spiritual and sanatan education & forgotten our glorious past. Whatever past they know has been written by the Left or from anti-Hindu perspective where Tipu n Mughals are glorified and the only revolution given importance are of French n Russian revolution
art included only renaissance painting and our science almost non-exisitent. This creature feels that only English, French, Spanish and other languages are important & learning abt Sanskrit and Vedas will make him look like a regressive Hindu.
Anti-Hindu writers rworshipped on a pedestal and Hindu traditions are portrayed as regressive, patriarchial and antiwomen while only western culture and Left is portrayed as advanced or progressive.
He has been subconsciously programmed by this education, society, Bollywood, media, writers etc to feel ashamed of Sanatan dharma & his roots.
So when a Gen-X Hindu somehow escapes the shackles of his education and past n rediscovers his religion, tradition and history and realizes how misled he was and wants to go back and save his kin – he is shunned, hated and called a Bigot, sanghi, Bhakt etc.
It is sad, hurtful and also highly confusing but I write this from my experience. It is a struggle to become critical thinkers n realize the truth. Hinduism also has its flaws brought in by ourselves wch needs to be addressed and corrected too.
We have to see that too. Knowing the truth is harsh, bitter and smtym very painful – v may feel ignorance is bliss. Bt th truth shall set us free.
We need a educational & philosophical awakening & ths can b done only by this government – reforms need to be done in our education.

Hindu parents get educated abt Sanatan Dharma n preach the same to our kids.
