1/ Q: Can people get re-infected with SARS-CoV-2?

A: While some individuals test positive again after recovering from #COVID19, a new study suggests that these #infections are NOT active.

More about how the findings below
2/ Tests used to determine if someone has #COVIDー19 detect the presence of the virus' genetic material.

However, they do not indicate whether a person has an active infection: i.e. actively shedding virus capable of infecting cells.
3/ In the study, researchers tried to isolate INFECTIOUS #coronaviruses from samples taken from 108 people who retested positive. All of those samples tested negative.

Nearly all of them had neutralizing antibodies that prevent reinfection in at least the short term.💪
4/ This is good news for those worried about reinfection!

Now, researchers are studying the extent of longer-term immunity after infection. Stay tuned…
