Why this new surge of #COVID19 represent #coronavirus transmission from a few weeks ago:

▶️Median of 5 days after infection before 1st symptoms
▶️Typically another ~week before a person gets sick enough to seek testing
▶️Days before results reach public health departments

Up to 60% of #coronavirus cases are asymptomatic. Many who traveled on #MemorialDay weekend, as well as those who are protesting, are young and less likely to develop serious #COVID19 illness.

Even if they never show symptoms, they can infect others at high risk.😰

13 states—AZ, CA, ID, KY, MS, NE, OR, SC, TN, TX, VA, WA, WI—had not shown a sustained daily decrease of cases as of Tuesday.

#FL on Thursday reported its highest number of new daily #coronavirus cases—1,419—since FL began providing statistics in March.

Several states, including Mississippi and Alabama, report that some of their hospital ICUs are at capacity or already overwhelmed. Other states (CA, AZ) are reporting massive surges in #coronavirus cases with spikes in hospitalizations. 5/

Even though it’s summer—hotter, humid weather decreases viral transmission—very few people have immunity, which INCREASES the ability of #coronavirus to spread.

States are reopening, people are traveling, and worse—holding mass gatherings—a HUGE advantage for the virus.😰 6/

As I’ve warned, as soon as we let our foot off the brake, this deadly #coronavirus will spread like wildfire.

Expect a massive surge of #COVID19 cases over the coming weeks.
