2/7 However, the pattern, extent & drivers of #COVID19 have varied greatly across 🇨🇦, ranging from zero cases in Nunavut & no community spread in PEI/other territories to community spread with varying degrees of control in other provinces.
3/7 Quebec & Ontario have dominated #COVID19 cases, accounting for over 86% reported cases overall & over 90% in last 2 weeks.
4/7 The composite picture of #COVID19 in 🇨🇦 has been characterised by a series of regional, now localised outbreaks & hotspots of ongoing community transmission. Epidemic growth fluctuations in areas of Ontario are a key concern.
5/7 Over the course #COVID19 in 🇨🇦, outbreaks have been reported in acute care settings, daycares, correctional facilities and workplaces, including Canada’s largest outbreak linked to a meat packing plant.
6/7 But seniors in long-term care & assisted living have been most severely impacted. > 900 separate outbreaks in these settings account for ~20% of all #COVID19 cases but a heartbreaking 85% of all deaths in 🇨🇦. #ProtecttheVulnerable
7/7 As well, #COVID19 has exploited social and economic vulnerabilities & inequalities across Canadian society, taking hold in settings and among communities who experience overcrowding, lower incomes & health disparities. #HealthInequity
