Lots of people gathering now around Sogo in Causeway Bay for #June12 anniversary. Poster of that day’s events are displayed. Lots of police too, both riot & undercover. Remember:all protests are still banned &police have announced thousands of cops are out tonight to prevent them
20.08 In Mong Kok, a large number of citizens have been indiscriminately kettled, presumably for stop&search. This is a frequently employed rights-abusing technique of the police. Very large police presence near Langham Place.
People also gathering in New Town Plaza mall in Sha Tin.
This is the scene in Mong Kok outside the MTR station near Langham Place before police started indiscriminately kettling people.
Another scene from the protest at New Town Plaza mall in Sha Tin. It's the only place of reported protest so far (along with Causeway Bay & Mong Kok) where police have yet to show up.
In Mong Kok at 20.08 & Causeway Bay at 20.16, police have raised the blue flag warning people they're unlawfully assembled.
20.18 Police arrested 3 people in Causeway Bay. The first reported arrests of the night. After the 9 arrested for #June4 earlier today, total number of protest arrests since last June 9 is now at least 9,007.
20.30 Police have now kettled about 2 dozen people in Causeway Bay on the north side of Hennessy near Sogo; meanwhile, across the street, they chase down & pin to the ground a man for unknown reasons.
Amazed sometimes that #HK police can still take their job seriously & follow orders. All they're doing is attacking HK people peacefully gathering on the streets. In what universe would a cop consider this to be proper policing? They're supposed to protect people; not attack them
People also gathered in Yuen Long, the 4th place where people are marking the #June12 protest anniversary (after Causeway Bay, Mong Kok & New Town Plaza in Sha Tin).
A street stall has also been set up in Sham Shui Po, displaying the story of the #June12 protest last year. A large number of undercover police are reported to be observing from the nearby Golden Computer Mall. SSP is the 5th place of reported protest this evening in #HK.
20.43 Another arrest for apparently nothing, in Causeway Bay. This is the 5th confirmed arrest there so far this evening.
Overall arrest count now since June 9 last year: at least 9,008. Expected to climb as the evening goes on.
Outside Ma Tau Wan estate in To Kwa Wan, the 6th place where people are gathered this evening to mark #June12 protest (after Causeway Bay, Mong Kok, Sha Tin, Yuen Long & Sham Shui Po).
Obnoxious behavior by #HK police: While clearing a street in Mong Kok a cop advances toward a journo chanting #BlackLivesMatter & #icantbreathe. What he doesn't seem to realize is at least people are allowed to protest in the US. Not here in HK. A sign of indoctrination of police
A beautiful rendition of #HK's true anthem, #GloryToHongKong from 20.02 in New Town Plaza, Sha Tin. The banners read, 'Glory to those who live in darkness & horror but don't neglect truth' & 'Freedom's never been conquered by military might. Resist til the last breath.'
People also gathered in Kwun Tong this evening to mark the #June12 protest, the 7th place of reported commemorations across #HK tonight (after Causeway Bay, Mong Kok, Sha Tin, Sham Shui Po, To Kwa Wan & Yuen Long).
People are even being arrested for campaigning against #CCP's impending national security law. Imagine what it will be like once the law passes. Now so many reported arrests around city tonight, it's hard to keep count.
Pro-democracy Legco member @tedhuichifung's now among the arrested. He was in Causeway Bay to advocate for citizens. Arrested Persons Concern Group's now documented 9 arrests in CWB, 1 in Mong Kok, surely just the tip of the iceberg.
Police really on parade this evening, this at Kwun Tong at 21.09. Tonight's one of those moments where you can see #HK descending into a #PoliceState before your eyes. It's been that way for months now, but tonight it's on full display. This should alarm the rest of the world.
5 more arrested in Causeway Bay at 21.11 (4 pictured here), bringing total number of arrests there to 14; almost certain to climb higher. These are ordinary #HK people peacefully exercising their basic rights & this is their punishment for doing so. #HKPoliceState
.@USPhongkong' photos of people marking #June12 protest in Tuen Mun tonight, the 8th reported place in #HK where protesters have turned out (after Causeway Bay, Mong Kok, Sha Tin, Yuen Long, Sham Shui Po, To Kwa Wan & Kwun Tong). In a #PoliceState no less. #HK people are amazing.
21.29 Police roughly detain 2 people in Causeway Bay for unknown reasons. They appeared to simply be walking along the street & were suddenly shoved to the ground by police. The 2 made no aggressive actions & have not resisted in any way.
More nice photos from @USPhongkong of protests around #HK this evening:
L- New Town Plaza mall, Sha Tin
R- Mong Kok
Protests have been reported from at least 8 locations around the city this evening. The freedom struggle is alive&well even under #PoliceState conditions.
21.11
First reported arrest in Kwun Tong this evening.
At least 15 reported in Causeway Bay, 1 in Mong Kok. Total: at least 17, but there are many more not yet confirmed & probably many others to come.
Pro-democracy District Councillor Tommy Cheung reports that fellow DC from Southern District, Michael Pang (彭卓棋) is among those arrested outside SOGO in Causeway Bay. After 9 for #June4 & @tedhuichifung, Pang is the 11th pro-democracy leader arrested today alone.
21.06-21.21 Yue Man Square, Kwun Tong: An older man, a suspected police supporters, is reported to have attacked a protester with a knife & then to have fled from the scene in a white van. This in spite of the fact that police are out in huge numbers in the vicinity.
People marking #June12 also in Mei Foo, the 10th place around #HK where such commemorations have occurred this evening. (Tai Po also reported but no pics from there yet.)Although they're entirely peaceful, riot police in full gear attempt to disperse them.
Apropos the report earlier in the thread of the knife attack by a pro-CCPer in Kwun Tong, here is a photo of the attacker with the knife. He was reportedly initially subdued by others nearby but then managed to escape in the white van.
Apart from arrests of Legco member @tedhuichifung & DC Michael Pang tonight, 3 pro-democracy District Councillors have been fined for violating social distancing rules. Lately police have resorted to arrests rather than fines but they're doing both tonight
Arrested Persons Concern Group reports as of 22.04 20 arrests in Causeway Bay & 5 in Mong Kok (this one in MK at 21.52), but police have pulled up a white coach outside of Hysan Place in CWB, presumably to make a large number of arrests of kettled citizens.
Here's the kind of rough treatment police are meting out to ordinary citizens this evening. To my knowledge, there's not been a single report of protester 'violence' tonight but clearly much violence on the part of the police. #HKPoliceState
Video of the earlier incident of a pro-CCPer attacking protesters w a knife in Kwun Tong. This shows police eventually subduing him. He's reported to have then left the scene in a white van. Was it a police van? If not, how did he go from being detained to leaving?
A large number of people have been arrested in Causeway Bay & put on a white coach outside of Hysan Place. These photos are just a small sample of the still unconfirmed number. These people were kettled indiscriminately prior to arrest.
20.45 Police have just charged down Portland St in Mong Kok for no apparent reason & have now kettled yet another large group of #HK citizens. Every time police disperse, people pop up elsewhere. So far, there haven't been as many arrests in MK as in Causeway Bay.
Another view of the pro-CCP knife attack earlier tonight in Kwun Tong. Earlier in this thread, you can see a person badly injured in the attack, but it's still unclear how he was injured & this video doesn't resolve the mystery.
#HK police report that as of 10pm, 35 people have been arrested. That number will almost certainly increase.
It brings the overall total of protest arrests since June 9, 2019 to at least 9,026.
Tonight police stopped even the smallest gatherings from taking place, incl this film screening in Tseung Kwan O, the 11th place in #HK that people gathered tonight to mark the 1-year anniversary of the #June12 protest.
A very symbolic & moving moment from tonight in Mei Foo: Police stop&search young man playing guitar while protesters, standing off to the side, sing #HK's true anthem #GloryToHongKong. No amount of police oppression can stop HK people fighting for freedom
Police using all means to stop people from protesting & employing the law arbitrarily, fx, ticketing people for breaking coronavirus social gathering rules even when they're not in groups of more than 8 people. This at Yuen Long earlier #HKPoliceState
23.09 Police entered New Town Plaza in Sha Tin, previously the only location of protests in #HK tonight where police had not attempted to break up the gathering. They told all in the mall who weren't journalists to leave.
40 of the 100 people caught in the latest police kettling of #HK citizens this evening, this one in Mong Kok, are 1st-aiders. UN human rights experts & many organizations have criticized HK police for their mistreatment of medical workers at protests.
As of 23.29, Arrested Persons Concern Group reports 45 arrests (34 in Causeway Bay, 9 in Mong Kok, 2 in Sha Tin). HK police reported 35 arrests at 10pm. The photo is of the most recently reported arrest, at 23.29 in Mong Kok
In all, 15 protests of 6,420 protesters total were reported around #HK today, to mark the #June12 anniversary. At least 9 were attacked by police.
Since June 9, 2019, there have been 1,069 protests of 15,035,911 protesters.
The freedom struggle goes on.
#香港人反抗
Not only 40 1st-aiders (see thread above) but also 20 journalists were detained by police in Mong Kok. See all of @holmeschan_'s thread for details on the latter. Some 1st-aiders have been released. As of 00.01 some are still detained, awaiting stop&search
Ming Pao confirms Kwun Tong knife assailant is DAB's Kwong Sing-yu (bit.ly/3fcHqQa). He posted this message on his IG account: 'Go police! Beat cockroaches to death!' Funny thing: only violence at tonight's protests was from police & pro-CCPer.
Arrested Persons Concern Group arrest count for the night is 47 as of 01.53: 35 in Causeway Bay, 11 in Mong Kok, 1 in Sham Shui Po. #HK police last announced an arrest count of 35 at 10pm.
47 brings number of overall protest arrests since June 9, 2019 to 9,038.
Meanwhile, as #HK police continue to brutalize & arrest citizens in huge numbers w complete impunity, Minnesota, where George Floyd was murdered by cops, continues its impressive record of responding to protests by enacting reforms. The difference btw a democracy & a #PoliceState
