A thread explaining the significance of #GuruPurnima.

The first full moon (Pournami) after the summer solstice in the month of Aashadhi is when the #Guru(#Adiyogi) first decided to enlighten his disciples & bestowed the Sapta Rishi's( 7 sages) with yogic understanding . Hence it is celebrated as #GuruPurnima . +
Gu - Ignorance
Ru - Elimination
So a Guru is hailed as someone who imparts education & transfers the pearls of wisdom attained over years to his/her students thereby removing ignorance. Our life is incomplete without a Guru. +
The great Sage Veda Vyasa was born on this day.The one who is considered as the epitome of knowledge ,the one who classified & compiled our #Vedas into 4 different texts & who played an important part in & authored the #Mahabharata and our #Puranas . +
All spiritual devotees worship Maharshi Vyasa and their respective Gurudevs on this day . It also holds special significance for #Buddhist followers as Lord Gautama Bhuddha gave his first sermon on this day at Sarnath. +
In our traditions we pay obeisance to our #Gurus today and pray that they show us the path towards knowledge.😇🙏
