With the situation in #HongKong continues to deteriorate by day, I can't stress how important the upcoming five-year anniversary of the "709 Mass Arrest" is to the ongoing development in #HongKong, especially the testimonies from human rights lawyers and their family members.
I did two big interviews today with the wives of two of the prominent human rights lawyers who remain unfree, one of them, Jiang Tian-Yong, remained under 24/7 house arrest and surveillance even though he has technically been released from jail after completing his sentence.
The other one, @yuwensheng, has essentially vanished from the world for more than 1000 days. His wife @xuyan709 has not received any official information about Yu's whereabouts and his health conditions. She has not been given any official document to prove that ...
... he has been official prosecuted on which day and under which crime. Everything was given to her through a phone call that lasted less than 2 minutes.
For Jiang Tian-Yong, he suffered years of torture in the jail and was finally released after he conducted a hunger strike. The years of terrible conditions in jail has left him life-long health issues. His spinal cord suffered persistent injury, which prevents him from ...
... being able to sit straight and he has also been denied the right to go to the doctor for almost a year now. Police are stationed outside his parents house 24/7 and whenever he tried to leave the house, they would be closely following him anywhere he goes.
While following him, the police would physically taunt him while calling him "traitor." He also suffered some psychological trauma while being interrogated in the prison, according to his wife @jinbianling. Nowadays, because he could barely leave his parent's house ...
... all he could do is trying to take a few walks on the second floor of his parents' house. He would sometimes be very angry at his current state, since he couldn't really work and is essentially trapped in his parents house, he would have serious mood swings and ...
... sometimes viewed himself as a useless person, according to his wife. These are some of the most educated and dedicated lawyers in #China, yet because they chose to stood up for justice and defend the powerless individuals,
... they have to suffer from the lifelong trauma. Jiang's wife @jinbianling told me that Jiang Tian-Yong has never truly been free since the moment he was arrested following the 709 Mass Arrest. His condition now is being transferred from one smaller jail to a bigger jail.
Whereas @xuyan709 told me that even though the world applauded for the reunion of Wang Quan-Zhang and @709liwenzu, they need to remember that Yu Wen-Sheng remains in custody without a proper legal proceeding for defending several 709 lawyers.
In her view, 709 has never ended, and it continued on 5 years after the mass arrest took place. The world should treat these precedence seriously because similar things could happen in #HongKong if #China were not challenged for imposing the #NSL on #HK.
