At least 20 journalists are currently missing from countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

All but one of these journalists have disappeared from #Iraq, #Syria & #Lebanon.

Each is #MissingNotForgotten.

Samir Kassab, a Lebanese cameraman and photographer for @skynewsarabia, went missing in #Aleppo, #Syria, on Oct. 15, 2013, along with Mauritanian reporter Iszhak Ould Mokhtar and their driver.

They have not been heard from since.

Waheed Mohammed Naji Haider, editor in chief of Yemeni newspaper Al-Arabiya, was abducted by two gunmen in #Sanaa on April 6, 2015.

Since he was abducted, no news has emerged about his whereabouts or fate.

Muhannad al-Okaidi, an Iraqi TV host for Al-Mosuliya, was abducted by Islamic State in #Mosul, #Iraq, in August 2014.

“Nothing indicates that he was actually killed," his brother told @CPJMENA. "Apart from hearsay, there are no new developments.”

On July 9, 2012, Al-Nusra Front abducted TV host Mohamed al-Saeed in #Damascus, #Syria.

Al-Nusra Front, an Al-Qaeda offshoot, claimed to have beheaded al-Saeed on August 4. However, no source has independently confirmed his death.

Ahmed al-Dulami, an Iraqi cameraman for Al-Sharqiya TV, was abducted by an Islamic State group in June 2014 in Baiji, #Iraq.

After unconfirmed reports of his murder, his family never received any confirmation of his death.

Walid al-Qasim, a Syrian reporter for Aleppo News Network, was abducted by Al-Nusra Front in the northwestern Syrian town of Haritan on Oct. 12, 2014.

As of May 2020, no party had admitted to his killing. The family hasn’t received his remains.

Jamal Sobhy, an Egyptian reporter for Al-Mosuliya, was abducted by Islamic State from his home in #Mosul, #Iraq, in July 2014.

Sobhy’s colleague told CPJ that when he spoke to Sobhy’s family in 2015, they told him they believe he is alive.

Fred Nérac, a French cameraman for British broadcaster ITV news, went missing on his way to the southern Iraqi city of Basra on March 22, 2003.

Today, he remains missing and no new leads have emerged about his fate or whereabouts.

Muayad Saloum, a Syrian reporter for Orient TV, was abducted by Islamic State group in the northwestern Syrian city of #Aleppo on Nov. 1, 2013.

Despite multiple reports of his execution, neither Orient TV nor his family have confirmed his death.

Farhad Hamo, a freelancer for Kurdish broadcaster @RudawEnglish, was abducted by Islamic State group in #Syria in Dec. 2014.

“Everything seems to suggest that Farhad is alive, but we don't have evidence or real confirmation,” his brother told CPJ.

Iraqi photojournalist Kamaran Najm was abducted by Islamic State group near #Kirkuk, #Iraq, on June 12, 2014.

His brother Ahmed Najm told CPJ in 2017 that the family has tried calling the captor’s number repeatedly, but the line is dead.

Qais Talal, an Iraqi reporter for Sama Mosul, was abducted by Islamic State group in the northern Iraqi city of #Mosul in October 2014.

In May 2020, his sister told CPJ that she had no new information about his whereabouts.

Omar Younis al-Ghaafiqi, an Iraqi videographer and technician for Sama Mosul, was abducted by Islamic State along with his father in #Mosul, #Iraq, in 2014.

Al-Ghaafiqi’s wife told CPJ that she had not heard anything about him since his disappearance.
