1/15 Long thread on #ArmeniaAgainstTerrorism
Summary of reports and evidences of #jihadist groups currently fighting against #Armenia.
Compiled by Analyst Aram Khachatyan

2/15 The first reports appeared in mid-July. First it was #Kurdish news Agency Firat @anfenglish, who reported about the corresponding decision of #Turkish authorities on July 18th and about the transportation of 200 #jihadists to #Azerbaijan.
3/15 Later there were some other #Kurdish sources (e.g. Hawar News Agency @enhawarnews) claiming the same. On Sep 22nd, few days prior to war, @LindseySnell, a prominent journalist published a photo supposedly with #Hamza group militants, in a plane arriving to #Baku via #Ankara.
4/15 All these reports were initially not taken seriously, given the prejudice towards #Turkey.
Starting from Sep 28th several international news agencies, including The Guardian, Reuters, BBC, The Independent, AFP, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, Deutsche Welle, Wall Street Journal
5/15 Washington Post, Foreign Policy & others reported on the participation of #Syrian militants on the Azerbaijani side. Most if not all of the above mentioned journalists stated to have personally talked to militants recruited in Syria by Turkey for fighting on Azerbaijani side
6/15 --- Video evidences ---
The first video, showing the jihadists in Azerbaijan, appeared on Sep 27th, the first day of war (). On the video there are some uniformed people on trucks, crying “Allahu akbar”. The video was geolocated in the city of #Horadiz
7/15 (google.com/maps/@39.44723…, see the Twitter-thread above). Initially the geolocation was not totally convincing, but later evidences proved it.
8/15 On Sep 30th a video from an #SNA military base was released, showing mercenaries being trained in the uniforms of #Azerbaijani Border Guards (). The base was geolocated in northern #Syria, right on the border with #Turkey
10/15 Next clear video-evidence appeared on Oct 3rd, showing Arabic speaking people in the uniforms of #Azerbaijan's State Border Service. The video was undoubtedly shot in #Azerbaijani Border Service's border control unit's base in #Horadiz
12/15 The same day two videos shot by an Islamist militant showed an ammunition bunker supposedly left by #Armenians (). “Surprisingly”, the same bunker appeared on a video released by #Azerbaijani MoD ().
13/15 On Oct 10th a video with Arabic speaking fighters, wearing Azerbaijani Border Guard uniform, was released (). The exact geolocation is not known, but it seems to be somewhere close to southern borders of #NagornoKarabakh
14/15 There was another bold evidence from Oct 10th with a jihadist militant broadcasting from the battlefield and claiming “they will kill all unbeliever pigs with the help of Allah”. it was clearly geolocated in Marjan (google.com/maps/place/39%…).
This list is not complete.
15/15 Dozens of other videos and photos have been published, which were not list here since some further verification is needed concerning the geolocation or affiliation of the militants.

...you watch what’s taking place in #Azerbaijan and #Armenia today. It is dangerous.

2/4 We now have the Turks, who have stepped in and provided resources to Azerbaijan, increasing the risk, increasing the firepower that’s taking place in this historic fight over this place called Nagorno-Karabakh, a small territory with about 150,000 people. highly contentious.
3/4 The resolution of that conflict ought to be done through negotiation and peaceful discussions, not through armed conflict, and certainly not with third party countries coming in to lend their firepower to what is already a powder keg of a situation.
