@DanaiGurira, @UN_Women Goodwill Ambassador who plays an @Avengers hero on screen, reminds the Security Council of the real heroes are: the brave women civil society leaders who briefed them in 2020!
Wafa’a Alsaidy, who regularly crosses the conflict frontlines in #Yemen to provide medical assistance to mothers whose children have survived so many bombings that they are now fearful of the sound of rain.
@NujeenMustafa, a young woman from #Syria born with cerebral palsy and famous for traveling from Syria to Germany in a steel wheelchair. Speaking on behalf of women with disabilities in wars everywhere, she told you: “Nothing about us without us.”
@Cleme_Carabali, an Afro-Colombian woman human rights defender from #Colombia who recently survived another assassination attempt. She told the Security Council that women are being killed for defending their human rights and territories of their communities.
@RidaAltubuly from #Libya, who has lost many activist friends but refuses to be stopped or silenced. When she’s not teaching at the university in Tripoli, she spends every minute mobilizing women and calling out men in power to let women take their rightful seat at the table.
@IlwadElman, a young human rights activist from #Somalia. Ilwad told the Security Council that peace talks that focus on warlords and reconciliation processes that mainly engage political leaders while excluding women-led civil society groups are doomed to fail.
"One of the things that these real-life heroes have in common is the conviction that inclusion is our only way out of these dark times, and that equality between men and women in decision-making is the only way we will build peace." - @DanaiGurira
@DanaiGurira closes by reminding the Security Council: "The women that you have been inviting have inspiring stories and a powerful message. It is your turn to show that you have been listening. And just like they keep showing up for peace, it is your turn to show up for them."

@phumzileunwomen sets out our five goals for #WomenPeacePower:
1. #Participation: A radical shift in women’s meaningful participation in peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding, ensuring that women are fully involved in each and every peace and political process that the United Nations supports.
2. #HumanRights: The UN’s unconditional support for women’s human rights and women human rights defenders. The UN must be the loudest voice in their defense! Sexual and reproductive rights are core women's human rights. #WHRD #SRHR

In #Nigeria, 250 girls disappeared from a school, in the most shocking act of provocation. And the world failed to #BringBackOurGirls.
