Farmajo has been disaster for the security of Somalia; security has worsened since 2016, majority of the time since 2016, Farmajo was ruling Somalia .
The report notes three factors that may worsen the security in Somalia:
- upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections
- The crisis in Tigrai region, #Ethiopia
- Trump’s Plan to withdraw US security forces from Somalia .
- This writer: the omens for Horn are not propitious
Under Farmajo security has been declining:
- Shebab expanded its reach to Puntland and Somaliland
- levies taxes throughout #Somalia, including Mogadishu, Kismayo and Bosaso port.
- controls major roads,
enjoys freedom of movement and adjudicates disputes in Fed controlled areas
The report mentions that Somali security forces are weak due to
- collection of fractious clan forces, not professional force
- This is likely, this writer, due to lack of security agreement assuring mutual defense and preventing the use of the forces to serve tyrannical agenda
Worse case scenario as Ethiopia crisis deepens:
- #Ethiopia may withdraw its troops from #Somalia, estimated (writer) to be 10k-19k
- AMISOM relies on Ethiopian forces, should they leave, others like Djibouti, Burundi & Uganda may leave, salary inducement is likely to be no avail
Farmajo, like Abiy wants to centralize power
- UAE supports Ethiopia, Eretria and some Somali regional states against Farmajo
- if crisis deepens, Farmajo may be abandoned
- Farmajo opposes UAE investments of Northern ports: it strengthens PL and SL autonomous ambitions.
This writer
Farmajo wants to control them by controlling economy;
- he does not oppose UAE investment: he agreed with Abiy Ahmed to search investments for four ports, northern ports included.
- This explains the economic road blockades of Mogadishu, sustained for 3.5 years.

I agree, let us make sure Mogadishu or banadir region does not participate meeting since it is not FMS; Mogadishu is needed though because it has to supply the venue and taxes to support the meeting between FGS/FMS; Jubbaland and Puntland must insist no seat for Banadir Governor
I further agree without US input Somali leaders will not have taken the reasonable or logical steps to moderately free and fair elections. Why this is so? Well, your guess is as good as mine.
Banadir region did not attend Dhuusomareeb I and II, Puntland and Jubbaland did; Banadir region did attend Dhuusomareeb III, Puntland and Jubbaland did not attend Dhuusomareeb III; the question is shall Banadir attend #Mogadishu I to finalize the election deal?

Abdirahman A Warsame posted this in his facebook:
- I saw the US ambassador acting as if covid19 was no more, mingling, acted like guarantor; armed troops were everywhere, they even gave me salute, learned that they were Jubbaland and Puntland forces to guard their leaders

More troops and army vehicles came to me, he noted, after they suspected about things, he did not mention what these were. I am confident, he noted, that they will not meet with Farmajo without other regional leaders being on the table, optimistic assessment.
“ bread politicians” he said, referring to Hawiye and other politicians, who, per general perception, only think about $$, rather than represent their constituencies, need to learn some lessons from this; what lesson? they are like Jinns who labored after Salamon (Farmajo)died

Federal MP, Idiris Taktar:
- Muktar Robow’s son, brother and others killed by Shebab
- left Shabab 8 years ago, his militias battling Shebab now
- in jail for two years without due process of law,
UK started stipends for soldiers after 8 months hiatus

- Close relative jailed in Mogadishu and was asked to pay for his release, hostage situation prevailing in Mogadishu.
- One major clan family, referring to Hawiye, has 65 of all SNA commanders, another, referring to Darod, has 35, and his group, Digil and Mirifle, has only 1.
The MP is right if his reported distribution of commanders is accurate; 4.5 formula is generally used to distribute federal government posts; the MP can get 10 MPs from his group and submit a motion and then call relevant entities for questioning. Let him use his powers. #Somalia

Somalia faces two demanding tasks: that of fighting insurgency, Shebab, and that of building federated state, where power is shared and all armed actors are unified under accountable system: defeats Shebab or forces them jump-start the political process.
documents1.worldbank.org/curated/en/644…
Dialogue and iterative agreements was needed to formally integrate all armed forces, both regional and federal forces, to secure the country ( UN & World Bank, 2017). Dialogue was rare in Somalia, leading inability of Somalis to assume the responsibility of their security.
Due to lack of political willingness to agree on iterative manner to formalize power and security under public payroll, allows armed conflicts to continue, in addition to other security challenges, such as crime, clan violence, corruption and inter-clan rivalry. #Somalia

#Mogadishu may become an epicenter of #COVID19; ministry of health reported highest cases in one day, 35: 32 from Mogadishu and 3 from Somaliland. Total cases are 60; 52 of these are isolating themselves in their homes, three are cared in Martini and one in Airport compound
With its large displaced population crammed in camps inside the city and lack of ventilators, #COVID19 may devastate people in #Mogadishu ; one affordable policy option is to support financially known cases, to reward isolation; continue to contact trace and isolate known cases.
MP, Ibrahim Xabeeb Nuur, Universal TV
- hirshabelle state minister died due to lack of oxygen in Martini, government designed #COVID19 care,
- his kids cared for him, buying painkillers for him, heard of reports guests visiting #COVID19 patients
