The African Professor who discovered #EbolaVirus (but, of course, the Western Scientists who flew into Africa to take advantage of the golden opportunity to study and discover a new virus and a #Zoonosis, at that, took the credit for it)! Biasalah!! 🙈
Exactly why #ProfessorLamSaiKit (University of Malaya Medical Microbiologist) was initially reluctant to share the new Malaysian zoonotic virus with (guess who?! 🤔) lest they take credit for its discovery?! #NipahVirus
Unfortunately, he had no choice because Malaysia didn't have a Biological Safety Levels P4 facility then. UPM Veterinary Medicine Faculty did have a separate negative pressure laboratory, to study veterinary viruses, but its EM didn't provide the necessary information.
Forcing #ProfessorLamSaiKit to send his blue-eyed boy to (you know where?! 🧐 because he thought he was dealing with a flavivirus) with a sample of what he thought was #JapaneseEncephalitisVirus (which Prof Jane Cardosa had told @ProMED_mail doesn't kill pigs or pig farmers)!!
And, so was told to #STFU by the guy from #MOH because only he could talk about this virus which was killing pigs 🐷🐖 and pig farmers!! 🧍🧍🧍🧍
The Flavivirus Centre (#ProfLamSaiKit's "blue-eyed boy was sent to) told him: It wasn't a Flavivirus!! And sent him forward to (guess where?!) which sent its Epidemiological Intelligence Service to Malaysia, with a portable P3 Biological Safety Cabinet, to study the new virus!
And the rest, like they say, is history!! Fortunately, by fluke, there's a Malaysian scientist based at the laboratory where the sample taken to the first location was forwarded to the second location, to at least ensure co-authorship of any resulting scientific papers!! 🤜🤛
*BSL4 (Biological Safety Level 4)
*Btw #UPM was the only Malaysian Institution at the time which had an Electron Microscope (EM) for virus visualisation! Through the initiative of its then Dean of Veterinary Sciences #Professor Latiff Ibrahim.
*whose chosen research area was #JE Virus because she had been cautioned by the so-called "Malaysia's Virologist" that only his lab could study #DengueVirus!! So, being the Malaysian Virologist expert on #JEVirus, she knew #JEVirus doesn't kill 🐷🐖 or Pig Farmers!! 🧍🧍🧍🧍🧍
LMAO!! 😅🤣
ROFL!! 🤣😂
Sorry but this is TOO FUNNY!!
So, how do I know all these?!
Because I was the Virologist at the Microbiology Division at the Faculty of Science, who was in touch with the other two Malaysian Virologists: both at UNIMAS and the second US Centre (whom I met while on sabbatical there in 1995)!! Tuhan Maha Kaya!
Look for the podcast (I caught the last bit of it from last night's 19.30 p.m. MYT episode plus the middle of it from this morning's 11.30 a.m. MYT repeat)!
Australian #Hendra Virus zoonosis from race horses which gave clue to the #NipahVirus zoonosis from Malaysian farmed pigs on the edge of the rainforest (eating fruit bats faeces-contaminated fruits on the ground), killing the pig farmers!! Re:-
@infinity10 WATCH NOW!! Repeat just started - FYI I only managed to catch the #DIALOGUE 10 minutes into it last night - after I came back from dinner at Ishin Japanese Restaurant off Old Klang Road KL (I can see it from my apartment), 6.00 p.m. sitting: Exactly this portion!

@WFPChief Dear Sir, Is there anyway I could communicate with you directly, to fill you in on the failure of your credit card donation system plus the incompetence of your supportercare@wfp.org team, which caused @WFP to lose my monthly credit card donations for Yemen?! 🤔
2/ (which you told @stephensackur of @BBCHARDtalk was the most pressing, thus my FIVE attempts to make a monthly credit card donation until 09/22, which all failed on December 10, 2020, after which I felt harrassed via nonstop Whatsapp MESSAGE from #WFP's Business Number at UN )
