#SupremeCourt hears a plea regarding the financial aid to be provided to lawyers affected by the #COVID19 pandemic
CJI SA Bobde: When I was at the Bar i know there is a large amount of fund with the bar. Rather than on spend on something else, it can be for lawyers welfare
Adv Manan Mishra for Bar Council of India: Our resources are completely drained out
CJI SA Bobde: You can explore the possibility of getting money from people. People have money and see if they are willing to contribute. Primary responsibility is for the bar. Secondary responsibility is of the government. We will ask the centre too. Keep chanelling funds
CJI SA Bobde to Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta: we have told BCI that they can invite funds from lawyers who want to. No coercion. But it seems from some connected prayers that they all expect Centre to make loan available for which Bar Council stands as guarantors
Solicitor-General: I will discuss with officials
SC: please sit with the BCI officials too and complete the discussion
SG: It will be done.
Solicitor-General assures that a meeting will be convened with all stakeholders to discuss the issue of funding for lawyers affected by COVID19 pandemic.
However, in a latest update, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave told @barandbench that farmer unions have declined to present themselves before a #SupremeCourt appointed committee
