Prime Minister Narendra Modi is struggling to beat back his biggest political challenge in years from #FarmersProtests movement which began with disgruntled farmers traveling to New Delhi on tractors and is now gaining wider support at home and abroad Image
Simmering in makeshift camps housing tens of thousands of farmers since last year, the movement has seen a dramatic growth in recent weeks, getting backing from environmental activists, opposition parties and even A-list Western celebrities ImageImageImage
At its heart are three new farm laws passed by the government last September.

The new farm laws allow private retailers to buy farm goods directly from growers, circumventing India’s government-controlled wholesale markets Image

Lies and moral depravity of some in Indian media seem limitless.

Labelling farmers as separatists and terrorists; then moving onto Punjabi singers, global trade unionists, aid charities, climate activists and anyone speaking for #FarmersProtest human rights is beyond a farce.1/3
Don’t need lectures about patriotism from biased outlets when my grand & great-grandparents fought for Indian army.

Rest assured, baseless diatribe (further exposing shoddy journalism to global audience) won’t silence me from speaking truth to power & standing up for farmers.2/3
This comical “research”, which actually demeans journalism, accuses me of speaking at events I haven’t attended, receiving funding from Palestinian and Pakistani links, and being a racist too for good measure!

Modi Knows ...
Folks a Long Thread; Trust me it'll be worth ur while.

'Modi was right. We were wrong. Protesting farmers are checkmated!'
Ashish Shukla
9th Feb

I sense #FarmersProtests has lost its steam & this round goes to Modi, that is if there's still 2.0 waiting.

Not just ears, I've kept my eyes & nose too on the grnd. I sense the squatting farmers are more like deadwt on Delhi borders than a heaving humanity.

It’s not my instinct alone. There were dots connecting this farmers’ protest and one-by-one each have begun to disappear.
It’s just not @_YogendraYadav missing, or @rihanna and @GretaThunberg fading so quickly, or various kind of “Diwas” and “chakka-jams” being reduced to length of a matinee-show.

The biggest dots were politicians and press and those big guns have fallen silent.

What can we learn from India's farmer protests?

@PLAAS webinar starting now. Click below to watch (now or later) and follow #FarmersProtests
Most Indian farmers have less than 2 hectares! And depend on state-guaranteed prices for wheat & rice. This has been the foundation for smallholder agriculture for decades. It's this system which is under threat from new agricultural laws.

Restrictions on buying farmland by non-farmers and companies in Karnataka have been removed. These were meant to protect farming communities from dispossession by corporate interests. The squeeze on farmers means a crisis for rural people, says Joshi

The Real Reason Why Farmers & Anti-CAA Protests Have Been Perceived Differently

#IndianMuslim's have been constructed as an enemy for the Hindu imagination says Abhik Bhattacharya, doctoral fellow at School of Liberal Studies, Ambedkar University, Delhi.…
On January 28, 2020, Sharjeel Imam was arrested, ostensibly for calling a chakka jam.

Imam, and indeed the larger CAA movement, drew flak then for demanding that those who participated in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) struggle do so on the terms of Indian Muslims.
Muslims must fight as Muslims if attacked for being so!

One of the most popular slogans at protest site of Jamia during the anti-CAA protests was ‘Tera Mera Rishta Kya, La Ilaha Illallah’

Though there were several secular critiques of its “Muslimness” that called inclusiveness!

1/6. Are those noisy Punjabis at Delhi’s gates “rich farmers?” The average monthly income of a farm household (avg. 5.24 persons) in that state was Rs. 18,059. Or a monthly per capita income of Rs. 3,450. (NSS 70th Round). Story link at end of thread.
2/6. In Haryana: Farm household avg. 5.9 persons. Avg. monthly income Rs.14,434 or Rs. 2,450 per capita. That’s income from ALL sources: cultivation, livestock, wages/ salaries, non-farm businesses. Gee! Such wealth. What a ball these folks must be having.
3/6. Sure they’re better off than farmers in, say, Gujarat: Farm household avg. 5.2 persons, Avg. monthly income Rs. 7,926 (or Rs. 1,524 per capita). All India average: farm household 5.1. Avg. monthly household income Rs. 6,426. Per capita barely Rs. 1,300

Highlights of MNS Chief Raj Thackeray’s press conference

• The farm law that the government has passed is not wrong. There may be a few shortcomings in that, which the respective state governments, as per their specific issues should coordinate with the central governments...
...and take it further. Power should be never be vested in the hands of a few people, that is the need of the hour and the people’s wish.
• The kind of security and surveillance present for the farmer's agitation is not required. This kind of patrolling mustn’t be present even on the borders of China or Pakistan.

India Farmers Protests Goes Vogue.

Celebrities, influencers – & British Vogue - suddenly interested in #FarmersProtests that began in Nov. Despite MASSIVE resistance, the protests have been largely ignored by Western influencers/NGOs, etc. So why now? Let's explore.
Twitter (tool of empire) promoted the #celebrity endorsement of Rihanna/Greta accounts – while it simultaneously banned/censored on the ground Indian farmers/activists. While highlighting Western #influencers, Twitter had deleted approx. 250 protest/alt media accounts in #India.
Rihanna/Thunberg accounts share CNN article which references Access Now, "an advocacy group which tracks internet freedom." In reality, Access began as an arm of Avaaz (Purpose), to destabilize #Iran. Another instrument of #empire.

The Central Government will mostly likely allow these #FarmersProtests to continue. The political calculation appears to be this:
1. The BJP will suffer in Haryana - however it's government was in any case unpopular except with urban Punjabis.
2. The BJP was never a player in Punjab except as a moderating influence on the SAD. If at all, it will gain with urban Hindus.
3. The BJP MAY suffer a little in parts of Western Uttar Pradesh but will benefit in the rest of the state thanks to these protests.
4. There will be no adverse impact on the BJP in the rest of the country. If anything it could gain thanks to unhinged Greta/Meena/Mia supporters.
Therefore it's time for the opposition, except in Haryana, Punjab & parts of Western UP to distance themselves from all this

Farmers in US & Canada have the right to sell anywhere. Indian farmers didn’t have this right before the new laws empowered them.

I hope #WorldSupportsIndianFarmers means it supports the new laws and freedom from State control which their farmers enjoy.

Every day a new "explanation" is spun up to oppose the laws. Just plain spin and bs'ing.

Fact is that the laws are being opposed for a singular reason. To oppose the government, to agitate and to burn the country down.

What about the vast majority of farmers who are happy with the laws and not protesting? You want a few anarchists to hold them to ransom? Elections are the way to decide if people and farmers support the laws.

This is very interesting!

An elaborate tweetstorm scheduled r.e #FarmerProtest & #GretaThunberg is involved! Who are the ones organising this & why?

Shouldn't detract from the fact that celebrities are all talking about #FarmersProtests. Ask why they are CHOOSING to take part!
Yes, this is very interesting & I'm looking forward to knowing why this is happening!

But like I said, celebrities are *possibly* CHOOSING to take part for MORAL reasons. I'm sure people like Rihanna & Greta don't need cash for a cheap tweetstorm that ruins their reputation.
It will be very interesting if the Tweetstorm news turns out to be as true as some in India think.

It will be equally interesting to see if the notorious celebrities say anything about the post/tweetstorm.

If they do, that could reveal a lot! Khalistan Diaspora? Pakistan? Or?

You have to be very naive and dumb about Indian politics if you are not able to decide what MEA meant in its statement.

Thread on govt propaganda against its own citizens.
Few days ago Nand Kishor Gujjar wrote a letter to Amit Shah & also released a video where he urged people to fight the ‘terrorists’ sitting on borders of Delhi. He requested permission from none other than HMO for this in a letter that media doesn’t talk about.
MEA’s message is soft version of what Nand Kishor & many others like him mean when they say “We are one.” MEA has very cleverly tried to paint farmers sitting on borders of Delhi as ‘propagandists’ who use ‘external forces’ to threaten integrity of india.
