In December, after Trump tweeted “be there, will be wild,” about the 1/6 rally, the Long Island chapter of the Proud Boys posted that Trump supporters have been “waiting for the green light from the President.”

📌The Proud Boys escalated their social-media activity and were emboldened after the 9/29 presidential debate, when moderator Chris Wallace asked Trump if he’d condemn white supremacists and militia groups. As part of his reply, Trump said, “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by.”
The response within the group, whose members describe themselves as “Western chauvinists” and advocate misogynistic, #racist and anti-Semitic views, was “euphoric.”
On Parler, members shared designs for a T-shirt inspired by Trump’s comments. It read: “Proud Boys standing by.”🤬
