44-yr-old coal & land protection policy – quietly killed by @jkenney govt. on Fri. afternoon before a long wknd last May – has led to a court challenge and public backlash so strong, govt. has cancelled recently issued land leases for coal mining. #ableg theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…
John Smith, his wife, Laura Laing, and their neighbour Mac Blades say govt. failed in its duty to consult before ripping up policy. The Bearspaw, Kainai, Siksika, Ermineskin & Goodfish Lake First Nations are making a similar argument in a separate filing. albertanativenews.com/first-nations-…
@CorbLund, a sixth-generation Albertan whose family has ranched in the southern part of the province for decades, isn’t one to generally get involved in politics, but he says the risks of new coal mining are too serious to ignore. #EndOFCoal #ClimateAction corblund.com/news/2021/1/12…

@armstrongcbc Djenaba Dayle said the minimum wage needs to rise, and that rent control is crucial — and not just during a crisis.

Listening to @FoodProfessor on w. @jordimorgan, re. flight from Cdn. cities during this pandemic.

When he references folks who can work from anywhere, he’s talking about the top branch of the ‘K’ recovery, who are doing fine.

What about the #LowWage workers on bottom branch?

@zwoodford @HRMLovelace @hfxgov @WayeMason @LindellSmithHFX @HalifaxLabour So these private contractors will continue to be able to avoid paying their employees a living wage.

This new policy is looking less and less impressive.

@CUPELocal108 @cupenovascotia @Tim_Bousquet
@zwoodford @HRMLovelace @hfxgov @WayeMason @LindellSmithHFX @HalifaxLabour @CUPELocal108 @cupenovascotia @Tim_Bousquet @communitycathy just asked the staffer (Andrew ?) about the living wage policy.

Conveniently, it doesn't apply to these multi-year contracts.
@zwoodford @HRMLovelace @hfxgov @WayeMason @LindellSmithHFX @HalifaxLabour @CUPELocal108 @cupenovascotia @Tim_Bousquet @communitycathy Turns out #Halifax’s much ballyhooed #LivingWage policy won’t affect #ContractedOut solid waste services for next several years.

@hfxgov staff were successful with their end-run around the policy.

How incredibly disappointing.

@marcilync1 @infomorning Change was certainly on the minds of Richmond County voters who rejected re-election bids of four incumbents.

First-time candidate Melanie Sampson emerged victorious against incumbent and warden Brian Marchand. #nspoli thechronicleherald.ca/news/provincia…
@marcilync1 @infomorning Marchand was the same clown who came up with this gem back in February:

Warden Brian Marchand said councillors did not oppose the idea at Monday's meeting, but they didn't support it, either. #Karma

@marcilync1 @infomorning @tomayers2262 Lots of change blowing through the corridors of power, following 2020 municipal elections in NS.

Amanda McDougall, who toppled career politician @CecilPClarke, is new mayor of @CBRMGov. She was actually criticized by some for 'running while pregnant'.

Thanks @thesmacleodshow for tackling this under-reported issue .

As EAC explained, Clearwater has 6,500 traps on one gigantic boat (used to be 8,000), while Indigenous fishers have 50 traps.

Other than you, MSM seems to be ignoring Risley’s plundering via offshore fishery. Image
Here’s a Paul Withers story from Jan. 2019.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) says the practice poses a "serious conservation risk" because lobster and other species can be unintentionally caught. @DFO_MAR
