Nearly every state is offering a *new* #COVID19 Enrollment Period this spring! Some have already started; most begin on February 15th. Here's a summary of the start/end dates as well as who's eligible to enroll via the new enrollment period: 2/
2. BE CAREFUL TO AVOID JUNK PLANS!
Make sure you enroll in an #ACA-compliant policy by using an *official* ACA exchange website.
If you *do* use a 3rd-party site, make sure it's an *authorized* ACA enrollment partner which *only* sells ACA policies, like Health Sherpa. 3/
3. YOU MAY STILL HAVE TO PAY A MANDATE PENALTY IF YOU *DON'T* #GETCOVERED!
The federal mandate penalty may be gone, but CA, DC, MA, NJ & RI still impose a financial penalty on residents who don't have minimum healthcare coverage (unless you get an exemption). 4/
4. YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL HELP THIS YEAR EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T LAST YEAR.
Due to how #ACA subsidies are work, the income threshold for eligibility goes up a bit each year, so you might qualify even if your income remained the same. 5/
📣 ALSO: SEE #8 BELOW!
5. RESIDENTS OF FOUR STATES MAY QUALIFY FOR *EXTRA* SUBSIDIES.
California, Massachusetts, New Jersey & Vermont all have their own *state* assistance for #ACA enrollees. In CA, help is available for many of those *over* the federal eligibility cut-off. 6/
📣 ALSO: SEE #8 BELOW!
6. MILLIONS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR $0-PREMIUM PLANS!
Due to how #ACA subsidies work *combined* with a pricing strategy called #SilverLoading, many Americans are eligible for Bronze *or even Gold* plans for $0/month. 7/
(This one is really only relevant during the traditional Open Enrollment Period, but generally speaking, current enrollees should never let themselves be auto-renewed, since doing so might mean missing out on a better value.) 8/
📣 8. NEW! If the @WaysMeansCmte#COVID19 Relief Bill gets passed as part of the #AmRescuePlan, #ACA SUBSIDIES WILL BE *EXPANDED* TO THE MIDDLE CLASS & STRENGTHENED for lower-income enrollees.
⚠️ WHY is this so important RIGHT NOW? Because if passed, the expanded/enhanced subsidies would be RETROACTIVE to THIS YEAR!
That means *current* #ACA exchange enrollees would see improved subsidies *as well as* NEW enrollees who sign up during the COVID Enrollment Period! 10/
⚠️ AS FOR CURRENT ENROLLEES, this gets a bit tricky:
41 states are allowing current enrollees to switch plans mid-year during the COVID Enrollment Period. 6 are only letting those *currently uninsured* sign up. MN is in between. CT, ID & VT haven't announced *anything* yet. 11/
(Actually, I'm not 100% sure what the status is in New York...their press release was a bit confusing on the issue of current exchange enrollees; I've reached out to them but haven't heard back yet)

Note: This doesn't mean the #TexasFoldEm case is over; all it means is that the DoJ is now formally DEFENDING the #ACA instead of siding with the GOP plaintiffs.
The case was already heard by SCOTUS in November. The decision is expected sometime this spring or summer.
The other option is for Dems to #MootTheSuit via simple legislation to either:
1. ⬆️ the mandate penalty back to $1 or more 2. Formally state that the mandate can be ✂️
3.❌ the mandate language itself: acasignups.net/21/02/05/democ…
Remember, even if you fall outside the parameters above, ANY documented U.S. resident is ALWAYS eligible for a 60-day Special Enrollment Period if they have a qualifying life experience like losing coverage, getting married/divorced, moving, giving birth, etc. #GetCovered!
Also, Native Americans & Alaska Natives can enroll in #ACA exchange plans year-round.
FINALLY, you can enroll in MEDICAID or CHIP year round in any state, and you can enroll in the Essential Plan, MinnesotaCare or Connector Care year round in NY, MN & MA respectively.
Also, using the *literal* geographic center of the country as the metaphor supports those stupid election maps showing a sea of red with dots of blue, even though more people for Dems than Republicans. The big Dem cities are mostly on the coasts. Guess what’s in the “middle”?
Also, as both @abcontigo & @corpusnovus have noted, this leaves out Alaska and Hawaii, both of which happen to include a high population of non-white residents.
