#HindaviSwarajya #MarathiBhashaDiwas

When Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj conceptualized the idea of Hindu self rule (Hindavi Swarajya), he had it in his mind to purify & purge the Mleccha influences upon the linguistic sphere too!
2.
Chhatrapati Shivraji Maharaj directed efforts to bring about the development of indigenous language for administrative use. Farsi was replaced with a Sanskritized Marathi through the publication of Rajyavyavharkosh - राज्यव्यवहार कोश.
3.
And that sacred work of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was carried forward by Swantryaveer Savarkar, as is beautifully explained via the above pictorial representation.
4.
If during Shivaji Maharaj's time a mleccha language had seeped into the daily administrative use, during Savarkar's time English words were commonly used while people spoke with each other in Marathi.
5.
Chhatrapati’s quest was to make the Sankritised Marathi the language of his administration, but Veer Savarkar took it one step further by working toward making this language the primary basis for *everyday societal affairs*
6.
Being an active proponent of language purification especially since the 1920s, Savarkar wrote a definitive book on the subject titled Marāthi bhāsheche shuddhikaran.

Savarkar provides a detailed list of a Bhāshā Shuddhi Shabdakosh at the end of his book, Bhāshā Shuddhikaran.
7.
This book was published in 1926 but portions of the text were earlier published in the form of articles in Tilak’s popular newspaper Kesari.

They shared their concern for preserving the aesthetic value of a pure version of Marathi.
8.
Veer Savarkar’s language purification project was a precursor to creating a ‘Hindu language’.

The proponent of Hindutva laid out detailed suggestions for Marathi in particular.
9.
For Savarkar, all the languages which originated and were then spoken in India became a part of what he called the Hindu Bhasha Sangha.

Marathi language mesmerises people with its beauty and gives them a true linguistic pleasure.
10.
As famous poet Guru Thakur aptly describes: “Marathi is sometimes tender, sometimes sharp as a glistening sword, sometimes as elegant & beautiful as a paithani sari, sometimes its fragrance is as divine as musk,& sometimes it is as mellifluous as if riding the music itself!"
11.
The birthday of famous Jnanpith-award-winning Marathi poet Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar is celebrated as 'Marathi Language Pride Day' or #MarathiBhashaDiwas
12.
Based upon the research by great scholars like S. V. Ketkar, Rajaramshastri Bhagwat, V. K. Rajwade, Iravati Karve, K. P. Kulkarni, Datto Vaman Potdar, V. L. Bhave and R. B. Joshi, it is evident that Maharashtri (Marathi) language is at least 2,500 years old!
13.
The well renowned Sant Dnyaneshwar by writing Dnyaneshwari brought the teachings of Bhagvad Geeta to common masses during the peak of Bhakti Movement, by translating the Sanskrit work into Marathi.
14.
Apart from Savarkar's Bhasha Shudhikaran efforts, he has enriched the Marathi language as a poet, essayist, biographer, playwright & writer of novels based on political & social background.

He composed many poems. His first poem was 'Swadeshi Phatka' at the age of 11!
15.
While Savarkar was being punished with solitary confinement/black cell,he immortalized his contribution in Marathi language.

He is the only epic poet in the world to have written an epic on the walls of a prison cell while serving his sentence in a black cell in the Andaman.
16.
With no reading and writing material, he used the prison as his medium. The walls of the prison turned into pages, the stones and thorns became the pens, and he wrote no less than 10,000 lines of poetry....
17.
An epic ballad on Panipat, composed entirely on the walls of his prison, one of the greatest literary feats ever. Savarkar was one of the greatest writers ever, often rated equivalent to Kalidasa, by the Marathi critic Madkholkar.
18.
Savarkar's magnum opus Kamala is often regarded as the Shakuntala of modern India, in it’s usage of similes, and it’s graceful composition.
19.
Also Savarkar's poems are also very popular, some of which are:-

1. Sagara Pran Talamalala (सागरा प्राण तळमळला)
2. Hindu Nrusinha Prabho Shivaji Raja (हिंदू नृसिंह प्रभो शिवाजी राजा)
3. Jayostute Jayostute (जयोस्तुते)
4. Tanajicha Povada (तानाजीचा पोवाडा)
20.
Therefore it might be right to say, it is no coincidence that #MarathiBhashaDiwas today is just one day later Swantraveer's death anniversary. (which was yesterday on 26th February)
21.
Also Dr. Ambedkar's Pali Shabdkosh (translated into Marathi) helped to enrich Marathi language even further.

Hence, it would be right to say people of all stratas from Marathi society, helped to enrich a Hindu Bhasha and helped us stay rooted to our indigenous culture.
22.
Such language purification efforts should be carried out in all Indian languages which were impacted by Farsi, Urdu, etc., and replace with Sanskrit-derived terms wherever possible.

This is right.

In the 1906 Zulu 'rebellion' (as the #British called it) in South Africa, Gandhi had appealed to #Indians community in South Africa to form 'Indian Ambulance Corps'. Image

The British were glad to see Gandhi's initiative, since the 'Whites weren't willing to nurse the wounded Zulus'. Image

Gandhi himself wrote that he was appointed as Sgt. Major of the 'Indian Ambulance Corps', which served for 6 weeks. Image
