In a statement, the Home Office said that holders of a BNO visa at “imminent risk of destitution” will be able to apply for public funds on a case-by-case basis.
Purely on humanitarian grounds, this is much needed as the majority of BNOs have no way of supporting themselves.
That said, expect a major uproar from the UK public where soaring unemployment rates plus record contraction to GDP make the locals increasingly dependant on welfare.
UK's debt to GDP exceeds 100% for the 1st time last May since 1963 and continues to climb...
The result from this:
(i) further cut to public spending;
(ii) collapse of the UK economy and welfare system; and
(iii) anti- immigrants (Asians) sentiment simmer out of control
If Brexiteers thought EU was bad, have a taste of BNO.
Personally, I am glad I made the right decision to return to Hong Kong and would happily give up my UK citizenship should dual citizenship be deemed untenable by HK govt.
I have 0 interest in paying UK's 48% tax nor do I want to live under a Tory govt led by a rubber duck. END

@HKMarkSimon , right hand man to @JimmyLaiApple DMed me amd asked if I wish to write for Apple daily. I have since refused. Note below that Next Digital, the owner of Apple Daily, which suffers from heavy losses for abt a decade seem to focus on fighting some "cause and belief "
As they have the money in the bank. What @HKMarkSimon fails to realise is that " money in the bank" belongs solely to the shareholders and not him or Jimmy. The listco duty to the shareholders is to maximize returns and not use their money to fight the #ccp or whatever cause.
I have asked Mark repeatedly whether his statement has been relayed to the market or the shareholders but he has failed to reply for over a week. Hence in the interest of transparency, I am sharing the screenshots above. Do exercise caution.
Haven't had time to look at this #nationalsecuritylaw fiasco. If BJ were to enact laws similar to those under Art. 23 by amending Annex III of the BL, which deals with national laws of PRC to be applied in #HongKong, this makes for vey bad optics. [Thread]
For the record, I support Art. 23. I didn't initially but seeing the destruction to HK in the last 12 months, it is long overdue. However, the filibustering of the Pan Dems make proper passage of this law through Legco impossible, hence the intervention of the NPC.
Regardless, the move by the NPC must have been well thought through, weighing the risks of further turmoils on the one hand against the perception from the West that IC2S is dead. They chose the latter meaning the city is in such dire danger that such laws r immediately required
A Florida law firm, Berman Law Group representing healthcare workers in the US sues China for USD 6 trillion. I will walk you through the firm, the parties involved and the merits(if any) of their case so that we can hopefully put a stop to the madness.
BLG is a boutoque local firm with a focus on personal injury litigation. A typical "ambulance chaser" set up. Their founder Russell Berman is not recognized by any industry publications like Legal 500 or Chambers etc bermanlawgroup.com
The management of the firm consists of Joe Biden's brother , Francis Biden, who is a not a qualified attorney, his role in the firm is unknown. The subject case is led by Jeremy Atlers, another non-practicing attorney who also serves as the firm's chief strategist.
