"We’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away."
--Donald Trump. March 10, 2020.
“One thing I think we’re learning epidemiologically is that that population has a very high level of immune resistance, of immunity, and resilience against 🦠an influenza🦠 of this nature,”
"This is a flu. This is like a flu, (...) It's a little like a regular flu that we have flu shots for. And we'll essentially have a flu shot for this in a fairly quick manner."
"President Trump on Monday incorrectly claimed at a campaign rally that #Covid19 'affects virtually nobody' younger than 18, again downplaying the extent of the pandemic..."
“I don’t think it is in the interest of kids to keep the schools closed for another year. (...) So that’s why we are moving forward with safe reopening of the schools."
But we've known all along that covid can be spread among children. We know that children catch #COVID19 because @SOSAlberta has been tracking outbreaks.
The kinds of policies that IDU Conservatives like Kenney have passed had led to tweets like this one, which while not from someone in Alberta, absolutely applies to the situation in Alberta where public schools are underfunded so we can subsidize private.
A few commenters have pointed out that Kenney's claim "We have successfully contained the more contagious variants" had some real "Mission Accomplished" energy.
The fact is that throughout the pandemic Jason Kenney has downplayed the seriousness of the disease, comparing it to influenza, committing $286k to researching a conspiracy cure popularized by Qanon.
Kenney's own #UCP MLAs, @AngelaPittAB & @Drew__Barnes joined an "anti-lockdown" group, but quite the group after after the group's founder, @randyhillier compared measures to slow the spread of coronavirus to Nazi Germany.
This gaff by @AngelaPittAB & @Drew__Barnes would almost be funny if there wasn't a precedent already set by the anti-lockdown groups already operating in Alberta, terrorizing people with their tiki-torches and hate speech.
Back in 2014, Artur Pawlowski of Calgary's so-called Street Church, [&] leader of the annual March for Jesus attended several times in his political career by Ric McIver, said McIver is the best man to preserve "traditional Alberta values."
I could keep making comparisons between Trump and Kenney as representatives of the IDU neoliberal ideology they serve... but by now you get the picture.
A difference is that Trump’s lies were collected and collated and put on display.
Important reminder to everyone that @bostonpizza is a member of the Conservative anti-labour lobby group, Restaurants Canada, which opposes living wages for workers and supports the #UCP and their anti-2SLGBTQ+ social policies.
If you want to find a list of vilains in the province—and their sponsors—just pay attention to the companies who advertise on the boards.
Many will have ties to Conservatives.
An obvious connection is Jason Kenney, former lobbyist for the so called Canadian Taxpayer Federation, who is now on the board of the Alberta Trailer Company.
Somehow ATCO has become a behemoth in overcharging you to get heat.
Pathways Alliance: “This group includes Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Cenovus Energy, ConocoPhillips Canada, Imperial, MEG Energy, and Suncor Energy. Together, they control a whopping 95% of Canada’s oil sands production.”
This is the future that people like Murray Edwards, The Irvings, Exon, and other oil companies made for us. This is the future that Conservatives and other neoliberals enabled through capitalism. Only the future is now.
Look at the sea temperatures. This is pretty much what environmentalists have been warning about since I was a kid. I grew up watching @DavidSuzuki)
This is it.
Canada is experiencing it’s worst wildfire season. There are tremendous issues with unaffordable housing and homelessness. Drug poisoning is now the leading cause of death in BC.
And this is what Conservatives do with their time in Parliament.
Few Canadians have caused more harm to the world than Murray Edwards. The Irving dynasty is one of them. For generations they have ruled New Brunswick with an iron fist. Irving considering exiting the oil business is a big deal.
Recently the Irvings sold the English Language that they used to dominate the media in New Brunswick to Postmedia. Jamie Irving was appointed to the head of the Canada-wide propaganda company.
