Since the pandemic began, a lot of citizens raised their voices online to try and hold our governments and media accountable to doing better by us in this time of crises.

Here's what we were countered with online:

Do we know how the money we donated to the government funds is being used? Is it being used to build medical infrastructure?

Should we be allowing such massive crowds in cricket matches? Should we be opening up stadiums in Gujarat for people to gather in such huge numbers without any social distancing?

Should India be giving away more vaccines to other countries without having enough for us? Is it a good idea to delay our vaccination drives without having built any capacity for us?

How can the Election Commission allow such massive rallies in the middle of a pandemic? Should the leadership of our country be campaigning in the time of crisis?

Why are our news anchors having debates and discussions on religion and conspiracy theories and external enemies but not talking about the virus raging through the world and our country?

Why are there so many religious gatherings happening across the country en masse and without masks?

The entire machinery of Bollywood and cricket came together to tweet about Rihanna. Shouldn’t they do such a campaign against vaccine misinformation?

200,000+ recorded cases everyday.
Thousands of reported deaths and thousands more unreported.
Pleas of help and stories of loss everywhere.
While our medical infrastructure collapses like a house of cards.. again.

We have been failed again.
And we have failed ourselves again.

Heartbreaking to see what's happening around us. How we were taken for granted. How we are doing worse, even though we had a year to do better.

Here's hoping our loved ones stay safe and we make it out of this crisis stronger and more aware. Until the vaccinations open wide..

A note to ourselves: It's not 'negativity' if you are trying to hold those in power accountable. It's a responsibility. It's a duty. It's active citizenship.

This was not inevitable.
