Margaret cannot believe that she can be this high up in gava and very close to power but she still cannot seem to make any headway, and even get any help to get her land
back.
Huku kotiko things are thick. Mara the case file is lost. Mara prosecutor is sick. Mara a new magistrate. A new prosecutor comes and needs time to get well acquainted with the case. Mara there some inconsistencies in claims nini. Huku Johns defence keeps pushing dates and times.
Luckily, Lands Office has stopped any transaction on that piece of land going forward.

Finally, her lawyer tells her, hii case inaenda ikiwa ngumu, especially because there’s a dead body buried in her compound. Those guys complicated the case and this will drag for years.
Anaona hivi, if she is willing and agreeable, juu anajua she is a woman of standards and character, na very religious, she should let him organise an out of court settlement, wakuje walambishe hii jeshi kitu kiasi, hii mambo ya court iishe.

She tells him, let me pray about it.
Meanwhile, the 3 other guys who won their case agains Johns are still following up on their reimbursement from Johns. Some 6M, plus costs.

Lakini Johns ni nani. To his name, he only has a piece of land in Njiru where he lives, and an old pick up. He doesn’t seem to have much.
.
After a month in the job, together na lawyer, they call the guys who’d buried the body in her land. She asks them for a price.

They say they have to consult.

One week later, they come back. But they want to speak to her alone, and do not want this conversation to come out.
They tell her oooh, ati oooh their Cucu is sick, and she is feeling bad that there is a court case, and that the mistake was not Margaret’s. And that Johns is a bad man. Anyway, wameona kuna shamba ingine mtu anauza huko Molo and the asking price is 5M, lakini bei ya kuongea.
If she can help them buy that, for them as a family, waache hii mambo, kila mtu aishi kwa amani.

Lawyer aka-show Margie, expert opinion, this is good deal. If nothing else, peace of mind. Juu hawa wasee wataleta tafash na court, and the chances of winning are minimal kabisa.
Lawyer akasema wasukume hii jeshi mpaka 3.5M at most.

Alafu after that wanaweza cheza pro, hiyo mwili itolewe ipelekwa public cemetery. Alafu auze hiyo shamaba pamoja na keja, arudi Ingo aishi maisha ya retirement bile hii stress ya shamba huku.

She thinks it's a good idea.
Game on.

She starts her plans. Akaenda ile Sacco ya wasee wa gava, akachukua doo yake yote. Alafu akaenda kwa chama akaongezea ingine. Akauza gari moja na a few other things.

Meanwhile, lawyer naye aka-engage hawa wasee, aone at least shamba wanataka kununua. Ndio isikuwe kesi tena.
They say, alete tu pesa, they don’t want to involve non family members.

Ala, one of the guys from the family, comes to the lawyer chin ya wabaa. Akamshow Hilo doo, apewe eye, and isipewe mtu yeyote kama yeye hayuko. Juu yeye ndio mtoto wa huyu mzee.
Mwingine huku naye akakuja akasema pesa iwekwe kwa joint account ndio mtu asicheze wasee wengine ngware.

These guys start going round in circles and then infighting.

Lawyer comes and tells Madam, hii kitu itakuwa tricks. Tufanye hivi, let’s get a list and give everyone a share.
Juu mwingine akisema amekuwa snookered, watarudi pale pale with a 3.5M loss.

Ama, akawashow, waende walete majina na ID ya nani ako wa orodha ya mkwanja. Jamaa wakaleta list mbili tofauti kama watu wa LSK. Na two different account numbers. Fulus irushwe huko.

Ikawa ngumu kweli.
Lawyer na Margaret wakasema imekuwa ngumu, wacha kesi iiendele.

Wakifika court, these guys never show up for clarification of the out of court settlement.

Postponement tena. Arrgh.

So Margie tells her lawyer, amechoka na amechoka. Hii shamba iende, yeye hataki ngori.
She is willing to let it go. Lawyer tells her, this process is designed to make you weary.

Lawyer pia akaona Margie amechoka. Akasema, if she is ok with that, ata yeye ako sawa. Wakaskizana legal fees, before they hand over.

It’s been a very crazy for Margaret and the family.
Luckily, kijana msoo ame graduate na Masters pale University hiyo mwezi. Margaret decides to go celebrate with him and the sis pale Diani. Mwili pia inaomba R&R. Besides, matha ashamuingisha works system ya gava. She takes two-weeks leave.

Wakiwa mambashani the lawyer calls her.
He tells her, a new lawyer for the guys has called him, and now they kinda have an understanding. Lawyer is optimistic because he knows of this new lawyer, na ni gwiji wa mambo ya lands na property. She gets a bit too excited.

She tells the kids and now finally, inakaa kuisha.
They can sell the house and land and they can breathe in peacefully.

THE NEXT WEEK.

This new firebrand lawyer comes with a brand new list of 7 people, save for 3 people. He guarantees Margaret that things have been done correctly, and this story is done. He even has letters and signatures of people handing over rights.

Sounds like a good plan.
.
Meanwhile Margaret tells the three guys who have now become famil, what this new development is. They are excited for her, but when she mentions the new lawyer’s name, they tell her, ‘Yoooo. Kaa chonjo.’ They tell her this guy is good, but he is more of a fixer than a lawyer.
'And there is absolutely no way, those peasants doing a 3.5M deal, can afford him. That guy is good, but his fees alone is more than 1M, for the least work.’

Margaret's lawyer decides to do some due diligence.

He calls one of the most vocal boys but who’s name is now missing.
Some lady picks up.

When he asks for the guy, the lady says her husband was just buried. He was in a hit and run while riding his nduthi, by his boss driver. Bahati mbaya.

Ala.

He calls another guy who says, wameambiwa wasionge na mtu yeyote kuhusu hizo shamba ya utawala.
'Kuna lawyer mpya anashugulikia.' The lawyer just asks him, ‘hii shamba ni ya nani ukweli?’

Pause.

The man says ‘Mkubwa amesema tusionge juu ya mambo ya Utawala. Lakini wewe ongelesha lawyer mpya.’

...

Margie and her lawyer, decide to call this chap for chini ya maji meeting.
He says he can tell them the truth but he can’t speak on phone.

Wakamshow watamjenga kakiru if he just tells them what’s going on. They also get a cop to try and record this guy for evidence. Mans says he needs bus fare and cash for the kids, and he wants to be paid on the spot.
He is also willing to testify privately, for a fee, if the lawyer can organise that.

They send him cash. But the guy never shows up. And they never hear from him again. The cop comes back & says he tried to trace the guy, but he has gone missing, and nobody can find him

Yikes.
.

When Margie goes for her lunch break at jobo, some guys are laughing at a story that one of them experienced but luckily ponyokad. That some guys tried to bury a body in their land. But the bros were so alert and they raise alarm, and neighbours came. They rodho those people.
They are beaten so hard mpaka they left their coffin.

When they went to check out the coffin, it was empty.

Everyone laughed. But she stood frozen for a while.

.

She calls her lawyer, and narrates this specific drama. He is also shook.

Her lawyer says, ebu they dig it up.
Wakishikwa waseme walikuwa wanataka kuweka pipe ya maji. Usiku wakaweka caretaker na vijana wake works.

Freaking coffin was empty.

Lawyer consults legally. He also tells them not to tell anyone. He comes back to her and says, 'Hii ni noma, na kama si noma, basi ni noma sana.'
.
A week later, the new lawyer guy for the crooks calls Margaret and tells her, they can proceed with the out of court transaction wamwachie land.

In fact, he wants to deal with her directly, no need for lawyers any more.

She says ‘tuendelee tu na process ya court.’

He says NO!
Akasema he already requested the court to allow them to settle out of court as agreed. And the court is ok. He will send her the papers kasha morning. She says, where she was expecting cash, kimeumana.

The guy tells her atie bidii. He tells her he would like feedback in a week.
She calls her lawyer and explains the conversation. Lawyer says he will file for the case to be hurried up, and say that Margie is being harassed.

A week later, a Monday, thug lawyer calls. Margie says, she has decided she will do court. Nothing more and nothing less.

Aka kata.
He calls again.

She picks.

The guy tells her, ‘3.5 million in a week, ama ulete title deed yako na utoke kwa hiyo shamba within this week. We know you and where you are. Penda maisha yako, Margaret. Sisi sio watoto.’

Sema njeve.
She tells the lawyer, and then she calls Johns to ask him how he wants to proceed. Johns tells her he knows exactly what he is doing.

She calls the leader of the other 3 guys. She tells them they were right and expresses the danger she feels.

She wants to leak the empty coffin.
Lawyer tells her they might be sued ati wameiba ama kupoteza mwili.
.

The guys say they have a plan to get their money from Johns actually. But if she is interested, they can try and talk to the new lawyer. They explain the talk is going to be messy.

She says she is not sure.
They tell her these guys are merciless and will hurt her entire family. If she really wants to go soft on her she should know they wont.

They will do all they can to get her & extort her for the rest of her life. The only reason they are doing it now is coz she wanted to settle.
On Tuesday morning, she goes to her car to drive to work. When she pulls open the door, the handle is sticky. She looks at her hand. It’s blood. Almost fresh. Her heart fails. She peeps inside open door. A dead goat’s head, gory and bloody is staring at her. There’s blood inside.
And then, there’s a wooden cross with her name, date of birth, and date of death: exactly one week from then.

She freezes.

She says a prayer, and confesses her sins, and she gets the courage. Akasema liwe liwalo. No more fear.

She calls the three guys. She says she’s in.
Wakamwambia, aweke pesa ya youtmen karibu. 200K.

Their leader goes and says their plan is one final ask for payment, if it fails, elimination. Alafu they stop Johns' burial, until fees are raised and payments done.

But for the lawyer, him he just needs to a bullet kwa mbichwa.
Same Tuesday evening, around 7PM, the three guys arrive at Johns’ house, in Njiru. But he is not yet home. They decide to wait. Lucy, Johns’ wife, gives them tea, as they explain their business.

Johns comes into the house asking who has parked vibaya at the parking. Amebonda.
He is more furious at seeing these guys. But he plays it calmly.

He shouts at Lucy in front of the guys, as to why she would let other men into the compound. ‘Kwa nini hawakuningojea nje.’ They tell him to relax.

Lucy excuses herself.

The guys tell him, they want their money.
And that money, they want it right now.

He apologizes. Tells them to wait for him to get it from the bedroom. He comes back with a gun, and fires at one of the guys. It misses him. They all scamper.

He tells them, he did not miss. And that he wants them to know he never misses.
He tells them to get out of his house. And to never come to his house. They never did business in the house. It was in the office. And if they cross him again, he will kill them, and that is the last warning.

And then he washads the king'ora for his house just in case.
He goes and opens the gate for them, and tells them, to never see them at his house or near his family again.

They drive off quickly.

On Wednesday, they call him to apologize and say they have let the case go. They don't even want payment and this story is over.
.
Robert’s wife tells detectives that said she knew he was going for a robbery, as a second hand. But did not know the details. They were having cash problems, and when he came with 30K as a deposit, and promised another 30K after the job, finally everything were really looking up.
It was his last job and they wanted to run away from Nairobi, to shags, because the police were looking for him.
.
On Friday, around 2:00am, they trail the lawyer, from a city hotel to his house, in Kabete. They hit him thrice kwa chest. The lady he was with got one in the head.
They speed off to Wangige, and then made their way to Kangundo Road, around 4:00am.

That same Friday Morning.

This guy, let’s call him Johns, leaves his home in Njiru, a short distance off the main Kangundo Road. It is early in the morning at about 5:15am.

He'll be dead soon.

Yaani the lawsuit against Esto has taken a whole turn.

But first, how we got here.
.
Our Esto has 3 full time employment departments.
1, Security & Safety. 2, Engineering & Technical. 3, Grounds and Works. For real, these are actual jobs.

Security and safety is more obvious.
Engineering and technical hao ndio wanakuwanga na kazi mingi na ngumu.

Mara stima.

Mara pipe ime-burst, mara mtu anataka kuoshewa gari. Sijui Kenya Power ama Nairobi Water, sijui Safaricom wanataka kuweka net... All major issues that affect the whole esto, hiyo ni yao.
Grounds do the detail work. And detail mostly ni udaku na umbea with the housies and security peeps.

But for real, their work is to also to make sure the esto is clean always, the garbage guys don’t steal the cats and the playground, live fences don't look bad when guests come.
