Sri Brahmapureeswarar Kovil, near Trichy,
Tamil Nadu
Main Deity : Sri Brahmapureeswarar (Bhagwan Brahma).
Ambal (Consort) : Brahma Nayagi
Holy Water : Brahma Theertham.
Sthal Vruksham : Magizha (Spanish cherry) tree.

Prominence of the Shrine : This is yet another spectacular Dravidian architectural marvel, the Brahmapureeswar Kovil. Not known to many, this kovil is tucked away on the outskirts of the Trichy city at a serene village near Tirupattur. After a 30 km drive from Trichy,

take left and a 6 km drive through the beautiful village side would take you to the Brahmapureeswarar Kovil. An Early morning visit is recommended for a great #spiritual ambience. The main deity worshiped here is the Bhagwan Brahmapureeswarar, an avatar of Mahadev Shiva.

Brahma Deva, the creator among the Trimurtis [Trident- Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh] appears to worship Brahmeeswarar here. #Thursday is considered auspicious for worshiping Brahma. Bhaktas believe that if they worship at this Kovil, they can change what is written on one's head

(fate – as per Sanatana Dharma all the good and bad events in one's life are already written on your head at the time of birth). Also it is believed that, only if it is written in your Destiny, you will end up visiting this mandir. At Thirupattur only Brahma Deva is having a

dedicated Sannidhi. Where Mahadev blessed Brahma is what is known as Brahmapureeswarar. Brahma’s Sannidhi is facing the East direction here.
Sthal Puranam : It is believed that Brahma at Thirupattur is so powerful the he can change the fate his bhaktas.

As per Sattology Brahma is the creator of living beings. Once he had the egoistic thought that Him and Shiva both have five heads, so both must be equals. Mahadev Shiva decided to teach Brahma a lesson. He removed Brahma's fifth head which gives Brahma the power of creation.

Shiva asked him to take birth on Earth as a human and travel all across the world doing rituals in favor of him. Brahma did the same and reached Tirupattur. He made 12 Shiva Lingas out of sand and worshiped Shiva. Pleased by Brahma, He and Parvati Mata [his consort]

appeared gave Him darshan under the Magizha tree and liberated Him from His curse and gave back his creation rights. Hence Shiva is called Sri Brahmapureeswarar here. Also Devi Parvathi gave back Brahma Deva all His sheen and that’s why Devi called Brahma Sampath Gowri.

He also gave the power to change the fate of bhaktas who worship here. Hence the Brahma here is considered to be the one who can change what is written one’s head (fate). If bhaktas worship at this mandir they are believed to get relief from all kinds of doshams.

First they need to worship Shiva, Brahma and then the Maa Brahmanayagi.
Now, speaking about the Mandir #architecture , it is a 2000-year-old kovil which reflects the Chola style of architecture. There are separate shrines for Brahmapureeswarar and Maa Brahmanayaki.

A huge 6.3 feet long statue of Brahma Deva can be seen by the side of the Mahadeva shrine. He appears to be in his Padmasana pose on a Lotus flower. The 12 Shiva Lingas worshiped by Bhagwan Brahma is also kept intact in this temple. The most interesting aspect of this mandir

architecture is that it is constructed in such a way that the sunlight falls directly on the main vigraha of Shiva every year exactly during the 15, 16 and 17th day of the Panguni month in Tamil calendar (March 15th to April 13th). The most auspicious occasion to visit the mandir

is during the 10 day festival during the Panguni month which comes during March- April every year. It is believed people who experience hurdles in their life can get their fate rewritten by making a visit to the mandir. Students do offerings Brahma Deva here in order to do well

in their studies and married couples also visit this mandir for putra praptham since Brahma Deva is believed to the creator of our universe. Tamil Nadu, being the land of mandirs and pure spiritual energy, I wonder why this mandir is often missed by the travelers especially the

SPIRITUAL seekers. The very reason that the Brahma mandirs are very rare adds more significance to the Brahmapureeswarar kovil and makes it a must visit in while you head out to TamilNadu. The 12 Shrines of Lord Shiva:

There are 12 Shiv Lingams in the mandir complex, which includes the garden adjacent to the kovil. These Shiva Lingams were installed and worshipped by Brahma deva. Most of these Shiva Lingams are housed in separate shrines, which are situated around the Brahma Theertham.

Brahma Theertham is the pond from which Brahma Deva took water for performing puja to Mahadev Shiva. These 12 shrines of Shiva which comprise the Bramhapureeswarar Temple complex are :

Rishi behind the yoga Sutras, Patanjali is believed to have made a visit here as well during his journeys. His Jeeva Samadhi is also on display here. The kovil is under the administration of The Hindu Religious And Charitable Endowments Dept, Govt of TamilNadu.
