2/10 Govt reports 3 general themes in the responses: ensuring the #NationalDataStrategy works for everyone in society, "Building Back Fairer" to spread benefits across the UK & “Building Back Greener” to use data to help achieve net zero. See our response theodi.org/project/the-uk…
3/10 “Building Back Greener” mentions a “Data Sustainability Charter” to be produced this year. We can’t find anything about this anywhere else
4/10 Sounds like some contention over govt’s role in Mission one: unlocking the value of data across the economy: convene? provide incentives? legislate for data sharing? The recent Frontier Economics report for DCMS discusses the options: gov.uk/government/pub…
5/10 No real surprises on Mission two: maintaining a pro-growth and trusted data regime. Respondents cautioned against weakening data protection standards; govt aims to capitalise on independence from the EU, but no details about what a new regime might actually look like yet
6/10 Mission three covers govt’s own use of data. Looks like there will be a govt Chief Data Officer installed in the Central Digital and Data Office, to provide professional leadership for the govt data community
7/10 Did you know that critical staff working in data centres were granted key worker status during the pandemic? Mission four highlights this as one of the ways govt is already ensuring the security and resilience of the infrastructure on which data use relies
8/10 The govt promises to announce priority countries for data adequacy agreements shortly, and highlights the G7 “Data Free Flows with Trust” roadmap, to meet Mission five: championing the international flow of data gov.uk/government/pub…
9/10 Implementation will prioritise monitoring, governance, evaluation and engagement, with a new cross-Whitehall #NationalDataStrategy Implementation Steering Group and a wider National Data Strategy Forum to help push things forward
10/10 You’ll also notice several mentions of @ODIHQ. UK govt is funding us this year, to work on data literacy, data assurance, data ecosystems and innovation, data institutions, and fundamental work building evidence and foresight. More on our plans later...

We set up a fund to support projects that enable trustworthy and ethical #datasharing. These projects aim to help citizens and businesses lower their impact on the environment, improve public services and save lives.
1/9 Covid-19 has shown us the benefits of #datasharing, but lack of trust in how #data is shared, and difficulty in designing and sustaining #dataaccess initiatives, can be a barrier to sharing.
We’ve been exploring these challenges in our @InnovateUK funded R&D programme...
2/9 Lack of trust and trustworthiness could lead to less #datasharing. But how do we decide what organisations and #datasets are trustworthy?
3/9 ...and here’s a (beta) guidebook to help you be more trustworthy and trusted when collecting, managing, using and sharing #data. Please try it and let us know what you think: theodi.org/article/introd…
.@RishiSunak has announced that there is a focus on our public services (£3bn to local councils) in this #SpendingReview. @ODIHQ offers free tools to help these services use data: hubs.ly/H0Bxx8b0
UK gov has announced funding for communities to pilot new programmes. @ODIHQ research shows that they should focus on enabling cities to access private sector data: theodi.org/article/do-cit…#SpendingReview
@bsnaith_ from the 'open #cities' team is going to take you through some of the key points from the report...
2/12 All four of these cities – #Amsterdam, #Gdańsk, #Hamburg and #Helsinki – have made significant progress in the move towards becoming open cities. The report shares how they're developing data infrastructure, training staff, engaging with citizens and fostering innovation.
3/12 The report talks about some of the challenges of using #data and #technology, but also how being open and being trustworthy with data can produce better services for citizens, businesses and communities.
