The family of six originally thought they just had to stay in #Taiwan but after learning that the island doesn't have a refugee law, they were informed that they will seek asylum in the US.
During the time in #Taiwan, they witnessed the 2020 presidential election and one of them told local media that they saw how Taiwan President @iingwen apologize to the public many times and she said she's never saw the #CCP leadership apologize for anything.
She said originally they thought they only needed to stay in #Taiwan for around six months until the whole crackdown in 2019 died down, but once they began to take media interviews, they realized that they could never return to #China.
Their family members were visited by local authorities after she mentioned in an interview during #Taiwan's 2020 presidential election that "she thinks the CCP can be dissolved." Officials showed a screenshot of what she said and warned that if she ever returned to #China...
... she would be imprisoned. She hopes to share the experience of being oppressed and persecuted in #China once the family gets to the US.
