Short thread, as we approach July 4th about the Johnson–Jeffries race riots in America and the suffering of the Jews in Europe, as detailed by the great Jewish & Zionist leader, Vladimir Ze’ev Jabotinsky, in his essay "Homo Homini Lupus,” or “Man is As a Wolf to Other Men."
On July 4th a boxing match took place between Jack Johnson & Jack Jeffries. Johnson was the reigning heavyweight champ, and only the second African-American to hold that title.
Jeffries, who was white, had been heavyweight champ but refused to fight Johnson & retired
Jeffries announced he would “reclaim the heavyweight championship for the white race.” He became the “Great White Hope" in "the fight of the century.”
The @nytimes warned, “If the black man wins, thousands of his ignorant brothers will misinterpret his victory.”
Johnson won.
Riots broke out. As Jabotinsky wrote:
“Since it was the black man that won & there was a suspicion that other blacks in the land would feel proud, the white citizens could not tolerate this, they sought to quash black pride & fell upon blacks in a proportion of 50-to-1."
“In the US, there are 10 mil citizens suffering a shocking lack of rights simply because of the color of their skin,” he wrote.
Pervasive inequality that was more severe than “anywhere else in the cultured world, even if also we included in this definition Russia and Romania."
Jabotinsky noted in his essay the irony of this hatred:
He then contrasted this with the suffering & persecution of Jews in Europe. Even in Finland, which he noted didn't compare to the suffering of the Jews in Romania, Poland, & Russia:
He tells of how Jews in Poland have no rights, "& in the courts a Jew will not receive justice. To the contrary, a judge will shame and curse the Jewish witness, calling him ‘Judas Iscariot’ (such a judge is ‘punished’ in that he will be promoted)."
This led Jabotinksy to proclaim "Homo Homini Lupus, that a man acts towards his fellow-man worse than does a wolf."
African-Americans & Jews persecuted, fighting for freedom. For Jews, only answer was the re-establishment of their indigenous homeland in the land of Israel
As he stated: "the objection to the Jew is not religious but racial, & he must therefore be persecuted even if baptized”
African Americans & Jews have a shared history of persecution & collaboration. From co-founding the NAACP, to Rabbi Heschel marching with MLK, to Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman & James Chaney being murdered on the freedom rides.
Palestinian authorities brutal cracked down on Palestinian protestors in Ramallah today, beating hundreds and hospitalizing dozens, even going into hospitals to arrest protesters who had been injured.
Here is a statement from a Palestinian in Ramallah …
Here is footage of Palestinian protestors and Palestinian police clashing
Ummm…. @nytimes once again falling for Hamas propaganda and using a generic photo of a child from a photo bank as one of the kids that supposedly died.
Here is a link to the photo being used on Facebook in 2017
What happened to all those apologists saying “antisemitism only happens with white nationalists” … pretty damn silent now. Can’t even get a tweet of condemnation. Can you give us even an Instagram story?
More video of Palestinian mobs terrorizing residents in New York and looking to attack Jews.
No matter ones views of Netanyahu, it was frustrating to once again (2nd day in a row) see @nytimes only present one narrative & without any further context, placing all blame on Israel.
For starters, Bibi came to power after Arafat turned down a peace deal in '00, after Sharon handed Gaza back to the Palestinians (PA) in '05 & Hamas took it over in a bloody coup & started launching rockets, & after Abbas walked away from a peace deal in '08
Erekat on '08:
Then in '09, Obama got Netanyahu to do a 10 month settlement freeze just to try & restart negotiations, but Abbas refused to return to the negotiating table
So while Bibi did authorize settlement building in '10 when Biden was there, this was the backdrop haaretz.com/1.5122924
If anyone wants to know what life is like under #Hamas rule ... just two months ago they ruled that women need a male guardian’s approval to simply travel:
@RashidaTlaib Instead of trying to be part of the solution, you are simply part of the problem and fomenting more violence instead of calling for calm.
Not only were there isolated attacks on both sides --- like this one of Palestinian youths beating up a Jew last night (& laughing):
@RashidaTlaib And this one of Palestinian youths beating up a women ...
