Four years ago yesterday, I was proud to stand in Calgary and announce my provincial government’s full commitment to getting the Green Line underway as soon as possible.
That’s one year longer to wait for the creation of 20,000 jobs and it’s one year longer to wait for the economic boost that this will provide to the downtown core and all Calgarians.
While I note the province rushed out a press release five minutes before this press conference, their cloak-and-dagger approach to this project leaves me worried that they will continue to try and obstruct it.
I just want to give a heartfelt thank you to all of our incredible supporters who chipped in over the past few days and weeks. Your support is always overwhelming and it means so much to myself and our caucus. 🍊
I got off the phone with Brandon at Party Headquarters earlier today, and I couldn’t be more excited with the results from our big end-of-quarter fundraising campaign.
Our movement is built by people like you raising your voice, amplifying our work, and chipping in when they can – and our fight for a better #Alberta will continue strong because we have people like you in our corner. ✅
Albertans need leadership that is focused on the challenges they face .. with their needs front and centre.
I don’t have any insight into the motives of Todd Loewen or others in the UCP Caucus who may support him. 1/7 #ableg
But I do know that the emergency department in the Fairview hospital — in his riding, and that’s also my hometown — was closed due to a shortage of doctors and MLA Loewen brought up Jason Kenney’s war on doctors in his letter. 2/7 #ableg
Fairview is one of three rural hospitals in that situation right now.
We have serious problems in our rural hospitals … and an overwhelmed contact tracing system in the midst of a massive third wave.
In November, the Premier called the Governor of Michigan “brain dead” and then complained in a radio interview that he could not even get a meeting with her during a trip to the state in 2019.
Now I don’t defend Governor Whitmer or her position, but the Premier of Alberta should be able to get a meeting with her - as a matter of respect if nothing else.
According to numbers released by Statistics Canada today, 13,000 jobs were lost in April as Alberta became the COVID-19 hotspot in Canada and the United States. #ableg
The survey was conducted from April 11-17, which means the data does not reflect any of the recent public health restrictions that were introduced to address the soaring number of COVID cases in AB that led to the highest infection rate among all provinces and US states. #ableg
This shows that Jason Kenney and his UCP government's failure to act has hurt our economy and left thousands of Albertans unemployed. And their failure to act means the economic impact will be deeper and further delay the recovery. #ableg
First and foremost, do the measures that apply today, apply across the province or are they are still on a regional basis as was put forward last week?
If it’s the latter, it’s a profound failure.
The Premier is continuing to make false promises and create false hope, setting up for further challenges and disappointment in the weeks to come.
