(2) Whenever I talk about the Trumps I have to point out at the start I don't support them - bc of the inane replies I sometimes get.
If any of them can be tried in the criminal jurisdiction for anything they've done, then I want them to be.
Meantime, I watch the spectacle.
(3) If Melania agreed with DT's version of the past 8 months then she'd make that known in public.
Anything could happen, & your predictions aren't necessarily more accurate than mine.
eg divorce or not, indictments or not, the Trump legacy is in tatters. Worse than tatters.
(4) This is, surely, not the outcome the Trumps wanted. But it's the risk they took when marrying in, or going along with the plans of the current family "patriarch."
DT is just like his father was. And the most reliable source on that is this patriot:
(5) That's a really nice photo of your dear Dad, @MaryLTrump.
Fred Trump Jr was the eldest son who didn't want to fall in line & become heir to his father's brutal, narcissistic, destructive legacy.
Fred's younger brother Donald was happy to perform that role in the family.
(6) Notice that Fred Jr is the only sibling who looks relaxed and happy in this photo? And, it's not like a 19th century photo where subjects had to stay still for minutes at a time.
Their actual feelings are shown in their faces.
(7) I've come to really appreciate Mary L Trump.
(Her grandmother was Mary M Trump, so I use the initial to differentiate.)
Some attack her for waiting until August 2020 to tell her story. But I think the timing was perfect.
(8) See, Mary Trump is one of the few born into the family who consistently show empathy, compassion, & true courage.
IDK the exact reasons she didn't speak out in 2016, but I think empathy for private individuals may have been a factor in that. My point is: She did eventually.
(9) And what a trove of info she has supplied through books & interviews in the past 12 months.
If you too understand Narcissistic Personality Disorder, it's traits, and similar PDs, then once you hear from Mary Trump, it all falls into place. We have a partial explanation.
(10) The "family background" part of the explanation needs the "human nature" part where we can see (if we're not wearing Trump goggles) how a deliberate and highly skilled salesman can entrance tens of millions of people. Not 75 M, btw. Many 2020 Trump voters have left the cult.
(11) We who are outside the cult are NOT smarter or less gullible than those still inside the cult. If a skilled salesman or woman pushes the right buttons for you, there's a chance you would succumb.
I know of economics PhDs who are still under the spell. It's not about IQ.
(12) IMO Donald Trump does not show signs of psychosis, mania, or dementia (at present.) IMO he shows signs of NPD, and possibly other PDs as well.
Having never effectively been told "no" in his life until 2020 also plays a part.
(13) This is why I talk about the courage of Mary L Trump. She knows exactly the personal risks she took by speaking out, and she has reassured supporters that she took care of her increased personal security requirements beforehand.
Vanessa Trump is another smart woman.
(14) Any member of the Trump family can testify against DT, or anyone else they want to. If they do, then the more violent among the Trump cult will want to harm them. So please keep that in mind. There is real violence in the US, that is barely staying under the surface.
(15) Trump's company has already been indicted on tax evasion charges. Tax avoidance is legal, tax evasion is not.
DT spoke proudly of his long term tax avoidance & there is no legal issue with that. We should all do it.
He is trying to muddy the waters in supporters' minds.
(16) If you _objectively_ assess the words and actions of DT, Nixon, Hitler, Stalin, Xi, and Putin, you will see many similarities.
They use the same rhetorical tricks to keep followers under the spell.
The similarities with Hitler from 1920-1945 are astonishing.
(17) It's not an idle partisan talking point to observe similarities between the words and actions of Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump.
It's based on my decades of studying WWII & it's causes. Which were many; with Nazism the main cause. Nazism didn't go away, it went underground.
(18) Whether you are on the left or right, most of you believe a version of WWII history that secondary or tertiary sources provided to you.
The good news is that in 2021 there are history scholars who take a fresh look at the primary sources. But that's another thread or 12.
(19) I will wrap this up with an observation of the lame NY Post story about 15 year old minor, and private citizen, Barron Trump.
The cover photo was taken at a different angle to this other one:
(20) I looked for other photos so I could test my hypothesis that they were walking down steps. They weren't, but the camera angles gave NYP a range of options for which photo to use.
Barron is 6'7"
Melania is 5'11" (was wearing flats)
Donald is 6'2"
(all are estimates)
(21) There's nothing remarkable about the child of two tall people being tall. Eric Trump is 6'6", by the way.
It's just an example of media (of any stripe) twisting the truth to generate clicks or ratings.
I'd ignore it if I hadn't been asking #WhereIsMelania? for months.
(22) Donald Trump is trying to gaslight his followers every day. I don't see him stopping until he's in the ground. (And please, no talk of death wishes, executions etc. Geez can we stay mature about it?)
NPD-aware people can help the country by sharing factual information.
(23) Heaven knows we can all do with being more NPD-aware. They're hard wired to (eventually) destroy everything they touch, then laugh about it.
It's time to put country over party or person, & do more to help our neighbors through this time.
Main reason I want healthcare workers with access to me to have to show their vaccine status? Tells me whether or not they understand science enough to be qualified for the job.
I will #GetVaccinated soon (NZ is slow.) Folk like me don't have a "99% chance" of survival.
BTW, I highlighted diabetes as a COVID complications risk factor but there are many other medical reasons I am in this category.
This is why I've taken Covid seriously since Jan 2020 when I first heard about it. I was also predisposed to trusting scientists over politicians.
People with health or disability issues (esp when long term) have to learn about medical science in order to stay alive. We have to educate everyone around us who could help increase or decrease our survival chances, often including healthcare workers who should know better.
I'm sure this is a graphic I would enjoy. 136 people so far clicked "like." If you can explain it to me, I'd be grateful. The context is a tweet about the #SandyHook lawsuit against Remington.
(And please check for replies before replying or I will be swamped. Thanks.)
(2) By the way, the next names on the Atlantic storms list are #Fred and #Grace. This season is forecast to be above-average in number and intensity of storms.
For now, #Elsa is the only hurricane-ish storm near the USA.
It has not yet made landfall but that's expected today.
(3) As always, excellent coverage on the Weather Channel:
(1) A small request if you can help me collate and translate these Latin phrases increasingly used by the far right in the US. First one:
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" or, if you want peace, prepare for war.
Sounds innocuous, doesn't it? Nothing could be further from the truth.
(2) One place to find these phrases is on the social media profile pages of far right activists. That's where I am seeing them.
They're not preparing to lawfully defend their home.
They are preparing for escalating civil unrest and violence, started by the far right.
(3) The evidence for this is abundant, and the process has been ongoing for several years, not just since Trump ran for office, or even the Tea Party movement.
Some say the far right never stopped trying to make this happen, and I think there is some strength to that claim.
(1) I'm terrible. I can't resist commenting on this viral Lake Lanier video in historical and political context. It's also not particularly hard on the eyes.😉
(2) People enjoy videos like this because of the schadenfreude, especially when college-age kids are involved. A further subset of the schadenfreuders are those who enjoy the misfortune of white people, esp. in GA. Now, hear me out...
(3) I'm just a commentator. I have no axe to grind on behalf of white or black people, or for / against GA. I'm not on the Democrat or Republican side in these things. My focus is always on saving lives. And I don't mean any drownings were likely. It's broader than that.
