So you are someone fully vaccinated in ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ or Northern Ireland, and you want to travel to ๐ช๐บ ๐จ๐ญ ๐ณ๐ด or ๐ฎ๐ธ
And you have heard of the EU Digital COVID Certificate and you want to get one
This ๐งต explains what we know currently
Important: there is a difference between proving your vaccination status when *entering a country* and proving your status *once you are inside* that country
As someone vaccinated ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ or NI you can GET INTO ๐ช๐บ countries by proving your vaccine status at the border
The question then is what happens after that
Like it or not many ๐ช๐บ countries are restricting access to things (museums, libraries etc.) for unvaccinated
This is where the EU Digital COVID Certificate comes in
Anyone vaccinated in any ๐ช๐บ country, or in๐จ๐ญ ๐ณ๐ด or ๐ฎ๐ธ is issued with a EU Digital COVID Certificate
This can be imported into mobile apps that can be used to prove your vaccine status
The owner of a venue - a library for example - then scans your mobile app with their verifier app, and if it verifies, in you go
It it doesn't... then it gets complicated
And that's the crux of the problem
Read on...
If you're vaccinated in ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ or NI, what are your options?
Because ๐ฌ๐ง has not joined the EU Digital COVID Certificate scheme, these NHS QR codes *import* into the apps...
... but they DO NOT VERIFY
The principle here is that there are 2 types of apps
The first (like Corona-Warn-App, or TousAntiCovid) are for *people* - a kind of vaccine certificate wallet
The second type (like TousAntiCovid Verif) are for venues to check people's wallets when entering
Think back to the employee at the library
In ๐ซ๐ท s/he would be using the *separate* TousAntiCovid Verif app to check people entering - scanning a NHS QR code will show up as "Invalid" - even if that NHS code is in the French TousAntiCovid app ๐คช
And then scan the TousAntiCovid QR with that (you might need 2 phones, or a printout instead, to accomplish this)
You *might* be able to persuade the library or museum employee to let you in anyway - by demonstrating you have paperwork, stating you were vaccinated outside the EU etc. - but *there is no guarantee* this will let you into the venue
It'd depend on that person's discretion
So what else can you do?
In both ๐ซ๐ท & ๐ฉ๐ช (please reply if this works elsewhere too!) pharmacies can issue you a EU Digital COVID Certificate - one that verifies! - if they are sure of your vaccinated status
* This can also work for those from other places - e.g. ๐บ๐ธ *
Take your NHS documentation - and importantly details of which doses you received, when, and the batch numbers - to a pharmacy, and ask them nicely, and they *might* issue you a certificate
I've checked this with dozens of people, and there's about a 50-50 success rate...
So to conclude, there are 2 partial solutions - via apps, and via pharmacists
If you are someone fully vaccinated in ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ or NI wanting to travel:
- get your QR codes and import them into an app (but knowing this might not work for all venues)
* AND *
- try the pharmacy route
NOTE: this thread does not apply to those vaccinated in ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ as no suitable QR codes are issued by NHS Scotland
This thread also does not apply for travels *from* EU *to* UK - I am no specialist on the rules for that direction!
This is all a mess. It could all be so much easier. ๐ฌ๐ง could join the ๐ช๐บ scheme (as ๐จ๐ญ has) and be done with it... But ๐คทโโ๏ธ politics and Johnson.
For now this is the best you can do.

๐ There's now a system in place in ๐ณ๐ฑ to get an EU Digital COVID Certificate, but it involves you... having to travel to Utrecht! Thanks @Thomas06901916
๐ One tweet above is poorly phrased - due to pandemic in ๐ฌ๐ง, travel to *all* ๐ช๐บ countries and ๐จ๐ญ๐ณ๐ด๐ฎ๐ธ is not universally allowed, even for those vaccinated - CHECK where you're going first!
But whether you have a QR code from NHS or *in no case central to being let in or not*
Also *please* don't reply to this saying "oh but this news story says it does work!" Yeah, I've read loads. And I'm yet to see *any* piece get this all right - esp. about the verification step. That's why I wrote this thread!

The prerequisites: letter from NHS ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ or Northern Ireland confirming vaccination status, with QR code on it, and Corona-Warn-App latest version (2.6.1 on iOS)
Up until today's new Corona-Warn-App update, if you imported a NHS QR code into the app it just displayed it, and did not do any validation
For that you needed the *separate* CovPassCheck App (which is only in ๐ฉ๐ช app stores - bit of a pain, but I diverge)
If you are vaccinated in ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ or Northern Ireland and are travelling to ๐ฎ๐ช there is good news!
If you want background for travel to anywhere *else* in ๐ช๐บ (other than ๐ฎ๐ช), or to ๐จ๐ญ๐ณ๐ด๐ฎ๐ธ please see this earlier ๐งต instead
First, I agree a CDU/CSU - Grรผne coalition is the most likely - and it's probably going to be the only 2 party coalition that would mathematically work
Second, I also agree CDU/CSU - SPD - FDP is highly unlikely - no-one wants it, especially the SPD. But if all else failed..?
Where I disagree with Christian is about if SPD would join a Grรผne - SPD - FDP coalition. Not governing with CDU/CSU would be a major change, and given policy agreements with the Grรผne on a lot of issues, the SPD might see an opportunity - even if they had finished behind Grรผne
Motivated by tweets from @DavidHenigUK this morning, a challenge:
How could we establish a *fair* picture of where there are supermarket shortages in the UK?
Quick ๐งต
David is right to say that itโs not all as catastrophic as some say, nor not a problem at all as some others do. Itโs something in between.
Further as weโve seen throughout Brexit, some firms cope better with disruption than others (think of EasyJet re-registering planes to Austria very swiftly, while British Airways dithered)
Back in the winter and early spring, Johnson was crowing about how brilliant ๐ฌ๐ง vaccine procurement rollout had been, and how - by comparison - ๐ช๐บ was struggling
Now - in mid July - it is precisely the opposite
๐ฌ๐ง bet on 8 vaccines in 2020 - AZ, BioNTech, Moderna, J&J, Valneva, Novavax, GSK-Sanofi and Curevac - and notably ordered and approved AZ and BioNTech sooner than ๐ช๐บ did
So the guys at @SmarketsPol asked me yesterday if I could make a kind of Brexit diagram for German government coalition options post-Bundestag election
I've not got a diagram together *yet*, but I have done some workings, and it's pretty interesting
Wikipedia's German polling page has a table called "Monatliche Mittelwerte" - basically an average of all the month's polls de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundestagโฆ
I've taken these numbers, and used them for this work, and have made my own July-so-far calculation as well
The overall state of the polling is shown in this graph
CDU did v well through the main part of the pandemic, lost 10 points, and have recovered a bit. Greens back to trend. FDP now up a good bit
