(1) Unless this TN GOPer can show statements made at the right time, he is no better than those currently failing to properly endorse the vax. Which is most of the party in office, and their anti-vaxxer in chief.
The approximately 1% of people in the world with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and their families, allies, and doctors, would like a word with those pushing this lie since the 1990s.
(3) The malign crank who published a deliberately dishonest article in the UK's Lancet journal has been exposed perhaps more than any other anti-vax industry leader in history. Pre-pandemic, that is.
I'm a family member & ally of people with ASD.
(4) The lie that vaccines have ANY role in autism has done real harm to so many people. There are the kids who die of vax preventable diseases, like the newborns who get pertussis (whooping cough):
(5) Then there the parents of kids with ASD who are plagued by the question: Did I cause this? Every parent of a disabled or sick child asks themselves that. Every day. Forever.
ASD isn't necessarily something that will wreck a person's life. There are challenges, for sure...
(6) ... and there are many people on the autism spectrum who achieve the kind of "everyday life" the non-disabled tend to take for granted, including great people in history: Many of our STEM pioneers, including Ms Temple Grandin:
(7) Confirmation bias is the thing that fuels harmful lies about vaccines and autism.
The age when a child gets most of their vaccines COINCIDES with the age where many of those BORN WITH autism start showing signs of it, that can lead to diagnosis.
(8) ASD and Aspergers are in their relative infancy in terms of research, services, and public awareness.
You can see how this BS started, right?
BTW many (most?) cases are genetic, others are as yet unexplained.
(9) When multiple family members present and past showed signs of ASD and it's traits, it's IMO reasonable to conclude that people are born with a genetic predisposition to it.
It is subjectively, not objectively, diagnosed. That's another thing that attracts the charlatans.
(10) The anti-vax industry is like a pyramid or, Ponzi scheme. Those leading it are in it for the money only.
And as we sadly see rn, foreign regimes & entities that want to harm the national security of other countries make use of it in their covert astroturfing programs.
(11) In 2016 when I was studying the Trump platform details I saw and noted that he was an anti-vaxxer then.
He exploited this sub-group of voters like so many others.
For my part, I believed that was just for the campaign & he'd see sense once in office. I regret this daily.
(12) On many of the major economic, social & foreign policy issues most conservatives, many independents, & some liberals agreed with & supported Trump policies & results. This is shown in the polling results for each SOTU speech.
Then on 12/31/2019, COVID19 got it's name.
(13) The usual process in the WH is that the POTUS is briefed on any and all emerging issues that will or may require his or her attention. I have no reason to believe this didn't happen with Covid. Admin officials were taking action in early January 2020. Trump has no excuse.
(14) To save time, essentially: Trump made the exact opposite call on what he should do about the pandemic.
He placed his own re-election chances before the lives of Americans.
(15) The 1,000 or so MAGA boosters such as electeds, fmr admin officials, media & other influencers (some of whom are in custody awaiting trial for the 1/6 terrorist attack) are culpable in otherwise preventable Covid deaths.
(16) And as if that wasn't heinous enough, their actions and omissions have exported the ideological extremism to other countries. I saw one estimate that 85 countries now have Qanon-style movements.
That's the number one reason this New Zealander gives a damn. I always have.
(17) If anyone's interested, I can share some of the rhetorical tricks & logical fallacies the Trump mvt tries to use.
But for now, I'll conclude this thread.
Vaccines don't cause autism.
#GetVaccinated because kids <12 can't be vaccinated & they rely on YOU to do it.

(1) As I predicted in February when New Zealand started vaccinating it's 5 M people, today we learned the Delta variant is almost certainly here & we're nowhere near vaccinated enough.
🚨Our rates are <the US Deep South.🚨
By my estimate:
1 dose: 27%
2 doses: 16%
🇳🇿
(2) My goal since February has been to receive two Pfizer doses & I'm relieved to say I have achieved that.
I have diabetes, qualifying me for early access, & other less common health issues also contributing to my high risk of complications.
I've been anxious since Jan 2020.
(3) My first instinct in Jan 2020 was to get to the USA. In hindsight I'm glad that didn't happen. Maybe someone up there is looking after me.
(I can understand those who say there's clearly no one up there looking after most humans at the moment.)
(1) We've had about a month since Hurricane #Elsa with quiet seas out in the Atlantic. That is about to change, as we approach peak season in late August/early Sept.
(2) Now is not the time for states like FL to be tormented by partisan political division & the rejection of life-saving steps like #GetVaccinated & #MaskUp.
It's never the time, but especially not in peak hurricane season.
(1) Republicans don't actually #BackTheBlue, as became obvious on and after 1/6.
The one thing they SHOULD support in response to the police brutality-exposing movement, is the firing and where possible, prosecuting of the "bad cops."
(2) Republicans have encouraged, enabled and (still) condone those who claim Derek Chauvin did nothing wrong, while also claiming insurrectionist Ashli Babbitt did nothing wrong.
This alone exposes their rank hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty.
It's all interrelated.
(3) The city of Phoenix, AZ does have a case to answer for it's policing practices.
Especially concerning disabled people. That term includes people with neurodevelopmental disorders like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and ADHD. And it includes people with mental health issues.
(2) All four LEOs who testified on day one of the #Jan6Committee hearings are absolute American heroes, but especially Fanone, given the serious injuries that affect him to this day.
Y'all were treating PTSD as real in 2016. Now you mock it.
(3) The number of LEOs (from multiple agencies) who acted to save lives that day & acquired the workplace mental injury known as PTSD is likely in the hundreds.
Many of the civilians such as office workers, janitors, & catering staff acquired it, too.
(1) Even in his announcement about testing +ve for Covid Lindsey Graham fails to provide correct information about Covid that might help us save lives.
Awareness of what vaccination does is low. He could have helped clear that up.
