WHO is calling for a time-limited moratorium on #COVID19 vaccine booster doses to enable progress towards #VaccinEquity and ensure least 10% of the population in every country are vaccinated by September. @DrTedros explains why 👇
@DrTedros So far, over 75% of the #COVID19 vaccines available have been administered in only 10 countries. Low-income countries have received just over 1%, nowhere near enough to fully vaccinate their #healthworkers and at most risk populations.
To deliver on #VaccinEquity, save lives & slow down variants, @DrTedros called on countries to work together to vaccinate:
-at least 10% of their population by the end of September
-at least 40% by the end of 2021
-at least 70% by mid-2022 time.com/6089974/who-mo…
Before #COVID19 booster shots roll out to people already vaccinated, the limited global vaccine supply should first go to #healthworkers👩⚕️👨⚕️ & those most at risk everywhere.
#VaccinEquity is a smart thing to do epidemiologically, economically & morally.
We need high-quality evidence before we can make recommendations on whether #COVID19 vaccine booster doses are needed. Key considerations are:
✅ The risk status of individuals
✅ Different variants
✅ Different vaccines
WHO is closely following the rapidly evolving evidence on #COVID19 booster doses, and encouraging research where there are gaps. Today's scientific consultation is doing just that 👇 bit.ly/2Uf34i1

These therapies - artesunate, imatinib and infliximab – were selected by an independent expert panel for their potential in reducing the risk of death in hospitalized #COVID19 patients. bit.ly/37wB6RF
These drugs are already used for other indications:
- artesunate is used for severe malaria
- imatinib for certain cancers
- infliximab for diseases of the immune system such as Crohn’s Disease and rheumatoid arthritis bit.ly/37wB6RF#COVID19

@DrTedros "WHO and our partners are supporting #Guinea’s Ministry of Health to investigate the source of the #Marburg outbreak, trace contacts, and inform the local community about how to protect themselves"-@DrTedros
