A study by Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (non-peer reviewed) in Delhi to evaluate the effectiveness of #covishield #vaccine found that its single-shot offered almost no protection against symptomatic #COVID19 infection.

The incidence of symptomatic infection in study subjects after 21 days of receiving the first dose was 12.3%, as compared to 13.9% in the unvaccinated group.

However, vaccine effectiveness for 2 doses given at a median interval of 30 days increased to 28% for symptomatic infections, 67% for moderate to severe disease, 76% for supplemental-oxygen-therapy & 97% for deaths.

Another noteworthy finding is that previous #COVID19 infections were significantly protective against all studied outcomes, with an effectiveness of 93% against symptomatic infections, 89% against moderate to severe disease and 85% against supplemental oxygen therapy.

A total of six deaths (5 in the unvaccinated, 1 in the one dose cohort) occurred during the study. The study was conducted over 4296 individuals between March & May this year.
