The Charity Commission rejected a complaint made by the frothing backbench Common Sense Group of Tory MPs and peers who had argued the blog was “ideological dogma” that put Barnardo’s in breach of its charitable purposes.

theguardian.com/world/2021/aug…
In what has been described as a full-scale campaign to “silence criticism & discredit any dissenting voices”, Tory MPs from Conservative Common Sense Group attacked the Runnymede Trust after criticised of the Govt’s ridiculous ideological  Sewell report.

theguardian.com/politics/2021/…
"Following careful assessment of the concerns raised, the Charity Commission says that it was within the charity’s purposes to engage with & take a position on the CRED report & has found no breach of its guidance".

gov.uk/government/new…
The Runnymede Trust emerged victorious following politically motivated smears by Tory MPs who demanded an official probe into its work. They accused it of being "woke", & motivated by anger at the Govt, just because it criticised the awful Sewell Report.

independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
Back in April, the only black SPAD in No 10 felt his only recourse to the "grubby, divisive Sewell #RacismReport" was to resign, following inaction over equalities minister Kemi Badenoch's bad behaviour, & dissatisfaction with the "divisive" Tories.

theguardian.com/politics/2021/…
The misleading & ideological Sewell report dominated the news for weeks when it was released, & the Tories - especially the rabidly intolerant populist nationalist Libertarians in the ironically named Common Sense Group - orchestrated politically motivated attacks on its critics.
When the Common Sense Group aren't busy attacking charities, they can be found mobilising the antisemitic conspiracy theory of "cultural Marxism" to demonise the National Trust, while fueling a US-style culture war moral panic against Critical Race Theory.
Why don't journalists ask why Jacob Rees-Mogg referred to Jewish Tories as part of the "Illuminati", & why Suella Braverman, Ben Bradley & others in the 'Common Sense' Group, KEEP mobilising the antisemitic conspiracy theory of "Cultural Marxism", which inspired Anders Breivik?
We know why: because the Government is only in power because for years the Telegraph, Sun, Express, Sun, Mail, Times, Spectator, BBC, ITV, talkRadio, LBC & now GB "News", & a network of right-wing think tanks & institutions with vast resources relentlessly demonise alternatives.
John Hayes MP: the National Trust are "coloured by cultural Marxist dogma, colloquially known as the 'woke agenda'" & Kemi Badenoch should 'stop the worthless work of publicly funded organisations promulgating weird, woke ideas & seeding doubt & fear, disharmony & disunity.' 🤬

John Malone, Chair of Liberty Global & the largest private landowner in the USA is setting up a formidable media company.

The $43 billion deal brings together AT&T’s Warner Bros, HBO, CNN, & Discovery’s array of cable channels - including GB "News"! 🤔

forbes.com/sites/dawnchmi…
Libertarian John Malone is on the board of directors for the grotesquely libertarian free-market Cato Institute, founded by the Koch Foundation in 1974.

And Malone donated US$250,000 to Donald Trump's inauguration in 2017. He's generous like that. 🧐

What's a 'free-market libertarian' you ask? Too big a question for a pithy tweet - detour #THREAD:

The barbaric Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill has passed its final reading & is awaiting consideration by the House of Lords.

It contains new limits on the right to protest, sweeping new police powers, the criminalisation of Travellers & increased stop & search powers.
Damage to memorials, such as the statue of slave trader Edward Colston, could mean 10 years in prison - longer than many rape sentences.

The Bill is an unacceptable extension of police & state powers, & attacks the fundamental freedoms of speech, assembly & the right to protest.
If you STILL can't see the *crystal clear* historical parallels, you're either blind, or in denial.

Or you simply just don't care.

I see we've reached the 'racism is justified against black people & travellers because laws' stage of the Tory regime.

Reminds me of something we did in History at school - can't quite put my finger on it... 🙋‍♂️

Since 9/11, the number of UK/US newspaper articles about terrorism increased exponentially - despite attacks in Europe & North America being much more common during the 1970/80s & typically carried out by left/right-wing nationalists.

theconversation.com/9-11-how-polit…
Sheffield University's @JaredAhmad1 makes a powerful & persuasive argument:

'Aside from the drama and newsworthiness of the 9/11 attacks, a major reason why terrorism dominated headlines was because politicians and other “elite” figures began talking about terrorism. A lot.'
'Studies reveal how, in the days, weeks and months after 9/11, politicians and security sources (often anonymous and unnamed) dominated the news of the terror threat during this period and helped encourage an atmosphere of patriotic fervour.'

Do the #USA🇺🇸 & #UK🇬🇧 have a disproportionately large proportion of idiots?

Or do they have Governments & news media influenced by rich free-market fundamentalists who want to deregulate everything, make people live & work in unsafe environments, & who value profit over lives?
Hungary, Brazil, the USA & UK are among the top 25 worst-performing countries on earth for COVID deaths/million of population.

Of these countries, the UK & USA have *BY FAR* the highest number of cases over the last 7 days - more than twice as many as the next highest, Brazil.
And just to be clear:

Brazil 🇧🇷 (population 211 million) - 99,846 cases last 7 days.

UK 🇬🇧 (population 68 million) - 206,462 cases last 7 days.

USA 🇺🇸 (population 333 million) - 932,988 cases last 7 days.

Out of these countries, the UK is the worst performing.

In 2013, at the annual Margaret Thatcher Lecture, Boris Johnson said inequality is essential to fostering "the spirit of envy" & hailed greed as a "valuable spur to economic activity".

The damaged, lying, opportunistic hypocrite also demonised Romanians.

theguardian.com/politics/2013/…
Johnson warned that the accession of Romania to the EU meant that London could do nothing to stop the "entire population of Transylvania" from "pitching their tents in Marble Arch".

Romania's foreign minister expressed his outrage at "xenophobic, populist" politicians in the UK.
The deregulatory free-market ideology that he & his catastrophic & cruel Government subscribe to seem to relish deepening inequality, & in his speech he warned that the growing competition Britain faced in a globalised economy meant that inequality would deepen.
