1/The rainy season is coming to an end. Roads will be more passable for military convoys, the skies will be clear for fighter jets & hundreds of thousands newly minted soldiers will soon be joining the frontlines.
2/ #TPLF and their allies know the end is near. #TPLF are massacring civillains as part of their plan to transform the conflict into an ethnic war and pave the ground for R2P. Their western allies are doing their best to force the government to negotiate.
3/ They started the pressure with the executive order from President Biden.
It would not be surprising if the EU/UK/UN restart heaping pressure on the GOE. The media has already restarted their campaign.
4/ We expect lots of negative coverage from the MSM & denunciations from aid organizations. Who knows, even @AmnestyEARO and @hrw might wake up from their deep coma & denounce Ethiopia before lapsing into their slumber without uttering a word about the massacres in Amhara & Afar.
5/ The 'IC' is looking at us as if we are out of our minds and wondering why an African nation is fighting this hard against their might. They are baffled by our refusal to just give up and let #TPLF come back to power.
This thread is my humble attempt to answer this question.
6/ For us Ethiopians the return of TPLF to power in any shape or form is anathema. We have lived through a quarter of a century as second-class citizens & have no intention of going back to that state. It's tantamount to asking African Americans to go back to the days of Jim Crow
7/ We Ethiopians want a #TPLF free future for ourselves & our children. That is our DREAM! That #Ethiopia is our promised land! #Ethiopia will not survive another stint under #TPLF. We know that #TPLF will do whatever it takes to see the demise of Ethiopia as a sovereign country.
8/ Obviously, the fight against #TPLF is not an abstract geopolitical issue for Ethiopians. It is a fight for survival. This might come as a shock for @AmbRice46, @PowerUSAID and the folks @StateDept, but we Ethiopians love our country and would love to see it survive.
9/ In this high stakes game of poker, the US is threatening Ethiopia in the hope that it would fold. However, their analysis on Ethiopia keeps getting two major things wrong.
10/ The US & its allies keep underestimating the extent of our revulsion towards TPLF & the depth of our love for our country. They don't understand the brand of Ethiopian patriotism personified by a certain Emperor of Ethiopia (ever heard of Tewodros?!) True defeat is surrender!
We #Ethiopians are fighting for the very survival of our nation.
We are fighting so that our children can have a place they can call home.
We are spiritual descendants of Tewodros. We will never surrender! We will never accept subjugation!
1/ These are some of the earliest reference to 'Tigray Genocide'. Within 48 hours of the start of the war, the claim of genocide took off. (have already done a couple of threads on #TPLF & genocide as a political strategy)
The pro-#TPLF propaganda machinery understood and exploited a particular weaknesses of the liberals clinically. They exploited the mortal fear of the liberals of being accused of racism or aiding and abetting a genocide or sexual exploitation.
They understood all too well that all they needed to do was make the allegation. They harassed dissenting voices right and left. The pro-#TPLF side made great use of the fear of getting cancelled. It worked like a charm!
@mekdes_asefa has done a great job of exposing CNN's bias against #Ethiopia & a possible direct line of communication with Getachew Reda himself. This thread will highlight this & other aspects of CNN's #InformationLaundering activities.
1/ For this thread I focused on 45 articles produced by CNN since November 4. @nimaelbagir was involved in 20 of these articles followed closely by @bethlehemfel. Unsurprisingly, all the @CNN articles I looked into were highly negative in their coverage of GOE.
Only one articles coveres the alleged misdeeds of #TPLF. The article by @bethlehemfel, @eoin_mc_sweeney, covered the #MaikadraMassacre as reported by @amnesty but conveniently left out parts of the report identifying the victims & perpetrators.
On the missing UN trucks: 1/ #TPLF invaded #Afar on July 17. Aid delivery was reduced to a trickle. It was routed out of Afar in the first week of September. More that 149 trucks made it to #Tigray. Conclusion: it was #TPLF that was hampering aid delivery.
2/ 428 out of 466 UN trucks that entered #Tigray haven't returned. This raises a host of questions:
- Who was the guarantor in Tigray with whom @WFP was dealing with? #TPLF?
- Where are the trucks now, based on GPS tracking? Any of them in Amhara region?
- Trucks have not been returning since mid-July. Why are we hearing about it only now?
- Where are the drivers of these trucks? Are they detained? What do they say about who took the trucks?
1/ Davison is an employee of the @CrisisGroup, a New York based organization that claims to work to "....prevent wars....& ...build a more peaceful world."
@CrisisGroup claims to be an independent organization but a cursory examination of their finances tells a different story. A very different story!!
Their biggest nongovernmental donor is Soros' Open Society Foundation (nothing to look here)
49% of their funding (19 mill USD) actually came from government grants. And who are these gracious countries? The Netherlands (5.9 mill), Canada (3.5 mill), Norway (1.5 mill), Sweden (1.03 mill). Other funders include EU (2.7 mill), France, Finland and Ireland. 🤔
1/ In July @nytimes described #TPLF#ChildSoldiers as "motivated young fighters" and now @guardian guardian has followed suit with their most recent coverage of the conflict in Ethiopia.
Many #Ethiopians and independent observers are enraged by the portrayal of #ChildSoldiers in the MSM. The refusal of the 'International Community' to unequivocally condemn this exploitation of Tigrayan children has been baffling for for many.
2/ The western world has been objectifiying black bodies for the past 500 years. Look at this pictures of black Africans naked and chained like wild animals or with hands chopped by the soldiers of their Belgian masters, taken by white photographers.
Thread
[longer than usual, please indulge me] #TPLF & #Genocide, a love affair, 1991-2021
1/#TPLF came to power in 1991, in the eve of the Yougoslavian civil war and genocide. It was against this backdrop that it started reshaping #Ethiopia into an ethnic federation.
The constitution that remade Ethiopia into an ethnic based state was ratified in 1994, while bodies were floating down Kagera River. While genocide was being facilitated by identification cards that advertise your ethnicity, #TPLF decided to enforce the same rules in Ethiopia.
2/ #TPLF institutionalized animosity between the Amhara & the Oromo which it tended to for three decades. #TPLF always portrayed itself as the only group that can avert imminent bloodshed between the two groups and the disintegration of #Ethiopia.
