A German @dw_amharic report on Kobo. The massacre has been discussed in Ethiopia now for several days.
Additional info:
- TPLF was fighting 2 fronts 12 km from Kobo center
- Losing they chose to regroup in Kobo & used mortars, .50 & AAA machine guns on the outskirts of town.
This story remains un-reported by Western Media, and there are no recent specific international condemnations addressing numerous reported TPLF attrocities in the parts of Amhara Region that it is occupying.
And, following the imposition of unilateral sanctions on Ethiopia on Friday (during this #UNGA) pressure continues to be applied repeatedly by US officials to get the GoE to negotiate with the TPLF terrorists.
And these remarks were made by @USAmbUN on Monday in a side meeting.
My recollection and the record records that it was the UNSG @antonioguterres who called for the open meeting on Ethiopia on July 19, albeit perhaps with @USAmbUN's support.
@antonioguterres@USAmbUN This call came, like Friday's US sanctions, moments after TPLF experienced a significant defeat, in that case at Debre Tabor.
@antonioguterres@USAmbUN@SecBlinken Speaking during this #UNGA both @JoeBiden and @USAmbUN have spoken out against coercive economic power being used against poorer nations. Before the war in Tigray even started the U.S. sanctioned Ethiopia over its failure to agree to #GERD mediation.
@antonioguterres@USAmbUN@SecBlinken@JoeBiden This very week, during the #UNGA, threats of coercive economic power are being held over the Government and People's of Ethiopia in an effort to compel them to negotiate with former U.S. allies/proxies who are terrorising Ethiopia.
@antonioguterres@USAmbUN@SecBlinken@JoeBiden It will not escape notice by the assembled nations of the world attending #UNGA that the United States is turning a blind eye to atrocities committed during its solemn assembly, by the TPLF, of exactly the same nature that the Govt. of U.S. constantly accuses Ethiopia of.
This is not only a clear double-standard, it is an affront to the dignity of the United Nations General Assembly itself. #UNGAEthiopiaCrisis.
The U.S. failure to condemn TPLF renders the fine words @POTUS@JoeBiden delivered yesterday meaningless.

As nations of the world meet in NYC at #UNGA discusses Climate Change cooperation in advance of @COP26 there is a monster low pressure circulation/storm over Eastern parts of Europe.
And the weather forecast for the next five days looks a little hairy.
@COP26 Meanwhile a few 1000 kms to the south East rains over the Arabian Peninsula and Horn of Africa picked up again today.
@COP26 Zooming out we see that there are also multiple tropical storm candidates in the Tropical Atlantic which at a practical level make forecasting in Europe a little unpredictable as their path and intensity is very hard to predict.

"Africa does not need charity. Africa is fighting to gain space for liberty and action in a world which is constantly competing so as to forge a better destiny...
The world has gathered to hear @JoeBiden the new "Leader of the free world" speak at the #UNGA. And Ethiopia is watching to see what he says about #UNGAEthiopiaCrisis and Human Rights after he imposed sanctions Friday on a nation facing a lethal rebel insurgency from the TPLF.
As the #UNGA headlining global leaders debate is about to begin, @POTUS/@JoeBiden speaking shortly, smart observers have their eyes on #UNGAEthiopiaCrisis - an issue which is threatening to divide the rich North West from the poor global south, especially Africa.
Yesterday I posted a thread on @USAmbUN's #UNGA briefing to media on U.S. Priorities for #UNGA76.
The questions raised in the CNN piece are general, but the specific issues around a novel new unilateral sanctions regime announced by @JoeBiden on Friday are very specific.
The Ethiopian PM @AbiyAhmedAli's response to @JoeBiden has resonated throughout Africa - published in full by numerous African news outlets - but largely ignored in Western media. There were no media questions on Ethiopia in @USAmbUN's presser Friday.
