1. @SAHPRA1 has decided to not approve the #Sputnik #COVID19 jab's application for emergency use at this time.
2. Why not? Sahpra is concerned the jab may increase the risk of males (vaccinated with Sputnik) getting infected with #HIV.

2. Why is there a concern that the #Sputnik jab may increase the risk of HIV infection?

1 of the 2 Sputink doses uses an Ad5-vector, which has been linked to an increased risk to contract HIV in studies in populations where HIV infection rates = high. SA = high HIV prevalence.

3. What has @SAHPRA1 done to obtain data that proves #Sputnik does not lead to an increased risk of HIV infection?

1. It has asked Sputnik's applicants to submit data demonstrating the safety of Sputnik in settings of high HIV prevalence.
2. Adequate data = not been submitted.

4. What else has @SAHPRA1 done to establish the safety of the #Sputnik jab?

SAHPRA has held a consultation meeting with expert committees, including leading members of the local and international scientific community, on this matter.

5. Has the #Sputnik jab received emergency use listing by the WHO? (This means the WHO is satisfied with the credibility of a jab's safety and data. #COVAX can't buy jabs that have not received emergency listing).
Sputnik has not yet received WHO emergency use listing.

6. Why has Sputnik not yet received WHO emergency listing?
1. The most recent WHO update says: The process
is “On hold, awaiting completion of rolling submission”.
2. Sufficient data has not been submitted; inspections of manufacturing facilities = not completed.

7. What now? @SAHPRA1's rolling review of the #Sputnik vaccine will remain open for
submission of safety data in support of the application.
