I've been thinking about what the pro-democracy majority of Americans can do with Trump assets that will be seized. The Old Post Office in DC is owned by fed govt & TFG has a license to occupy.
It would make an excellent museum to help us #NeverForgetJan6 & far right fascism.
Mar-a-Lago was built for a cereal heiress who left it to the federal govt in her will. The idea was for it to be a kind of Winter White House. That idea never took off and it was put up for sale in the 80s. The buyer was Donald Trump, who restored and modernized it. (continued)
When his assets are seized the property could again be in the hands of the government. I think the residents of Palm Beach deserve the peace and quiet they enjoyed before 2017, so increasing the traffic and noise is a bad idea...
The new owners deserve the value the property can earn, so whether it's sold, or leased out, or used for wounded servicemen and women to peacefully enjoy on vacation, the place should be used for good, and never again to house enemies of democracy. It must not become a shrine.
TFG has been selling off assets all over, to shore up resources for his legal defense, with cases multiplying like rabbits. It's quite possible he will lose everything (which will bring a degree of justice.) It appears his 3 eldest children + Kushner will need legal defense too.
IDK if his assets will be able to be passed to his descendants or if that would be seen as avoiding asset seizure. His major donors have dried up. There's only so much he can scam his cult followers for. If prosecutors are smart they can separate him from that cash.
As we all know, Kushner has plenty of money. He and Ivanka could end up having that seized, too. Think of all the outgoings TFG has: Whatever amount Melania was able to secure in 2017 by threatening to stay in NYC (lol), and supporting four kids (since Ivanka married up.)
As each new milestone is reached in TFG's well-earned political, legal, and financial decline, most Americans will celebrate, while toasting those who might have lived to see it, if he'd been a responsible adult wrt the pandemic.
I can't imagine there will be a Trump Presidential Library and Museum, and if there is, the poor old NARA staff are going to struggle with running it. You just know that some records will go missing before they get there. It would be a magnet for protest & counter protest.
After writing the above tweet I visited the NARA website section about presidential libraries. Hopefully all the official records from TFG's admin made it into storage at a NARA site in the DC area. Under federal law they can't be publicly requested until 2026. However:
We can rest assured that prosecutors, Congress, and any other official body can access the records anytime. Incriminating evidence may or not be in those archives. I just think if the supporters of TFG want to establish a presidential library for him, it would be interesting...
Nixon got a library, but his crimes were miniscule compared to Trump. If you objectively consider all the evidence available rn, including TFG's deteriorating mental state, it's getting harder to conclude there will be enough support for a library like that of GWB and WJC.
Even if TFG's wealthy donors want to stump up with hundreds of millions to establish and maintain a similar sized library, the practicalities of it seem untenable.
There are no publicly funded and situated statues of Hitler in Germany. Or Togo in Japan. Or Mussolini in Italy.
Support for TFG will only decrease from this point. It has been decreasing since 1/6. He's reduced to hiring lawyers that work out of a strip mall in upstate New York, for example. All of the experienced and specialized lawyers he could once count on have distanced themselves.
I wrote this thread because as we learn what really happened in the planning and execution of 1/6, we know the Willard Hotel and the virtually bankrupt Trump Hotel in DC will forever be associated with the terrorist attack.
What to do with the latter property as a result?
It's a heritage building and fortunately is owned by the federal government. The GSA can control what happens to it. Potential buyers won't want to be associated with the property that was used for the biggest pay to play scandal in presidential history, & insurgency planning.
We can tell, because the asking price for the business &/or license has fallen & fallen. It's not due to the pandemic causing reduced demand for hotel accommodation. It's due to the criminal conduct that was carried out there.
It would be ideal as a museum or memorial center.
An educational institution. In the broad area between the Capitol and the White House there are numerous institutions dedicated to promoting democracy at home and abroad.
Everyone outside the cult knows there are many mass death events associated with the Trump admin.
The pandemic death toll is what usually springs to mind for me. An unknowable proportion of the >736,000 deaths counted by the CDC may well have been avoided if an ethical, pro-democracy POTUS had been in office during 2020. (All of my claims are supported by credible evidence.)
An equally unknowable number of other deaths have arisen because of other choices made by this extremely self-interested former president. If Republicans succeed in suppressing pro-democracy voters in future elections, the death toll will obviously climb higher.
The best outcome, IMO, would be for a private consortium of pro-democracy donors to establish or utilize an existing entity that can acquire the license to occupy the Old Post Office building in DC for, say, 99 years. Or something similar.
We (citizens of the allied victors of WWII) dropped the ball on defending democracy. The USA was the most powerful & well resourced of the allies. It still is, & prob. always will be, bc of abundant natural resources. Those resources include the people, who know their history.
I'm referring to the majority of Americans, who don't support what was done in the name of TFG & what will continue long after he is gone.
The tiny minority who were committed far right fascists pre-2015 will always be there, because they always have been. That's OK because:
The US Constitution does not allow gov't to legislate or prosecute thought crime. It does allow the prosecution of ideologues who kill & maim others. Such as those among the >700 1/6 defendants so far indicted for trying to beat cops to death. (Recorded on video you can see now.)
The most critical tasks before pro-democracy Americans are to:
- ensure accountability for crimes
- preserve and strengthen voting rights
- reduce pandemic harm, and
- educate, educate, educate.
These goals are all vital, and are interconnected.
We have to improve our ability to offer education to today's youth, and everyone who will come after them.
There are several Holocaust remembrance centers, and the 9/11 museum also contributes to pro-democracy education.
Remember the apoplectic rage of the far right fascists when a mosque near the 9/11 memorial site was proposed?
They will react in the same way if the Old Post Office in DC becomes an educational center.
Which will be a clear indicator that it's the right thing to do.

Damn, not only did I misspell Tojo as Togo, I was wrong about public statues/memorials to him in Japan. I'll add a tweet to the end of the thread about it. Here is a good article about the whole saga:
That is the name of a movement around the world that IMO can be summed as anti-racism. (And yes, it is about racism toward one group, for good reason.)
BLM is also the name of a political organization.
Owens, like other fascists, doesn't care whether readers understand the difference between talking about a specific organization & a mass movement.
They have latched onto the domestic terrorism history of some past BLM associates.
For me it's nothing to do with politics. (The far right fascist maga movement hates Alec Baldwin. Others are inclined to excuse reckless mistakes by people they like.)
I try to use an objective approach without fear or favor.
He was criminally negligent and reckless.
If I were Alec Baldwin's legal or PR advisor I'd recommend he:
-Release my draft statement without alteration
-Cancel the entire production and ensure everyone receives full compensation
-Never make another movie or act in one
-Lay low and say nothing until after the trial.
1. There an be no clearer sign that Condoleezza Rice is, like McConnell, McCarthy and the rest, bought and paid for by wealthy donors. Not directly, but in the shadows.
2. #TheView only invited her onto the show to talk about the late Colin Powell. Instead, she...
... blatantly used the opportunity to act as an apologist for the GOP / GQP at a time when the survival of American democracy itself requires her to speak up.
3. As a black woman, she clearly doesn't care about the well-funded assault on voting rights that's more urgent than
1. We can't verify if Dennis Prager did in fact test positive for Covid. 2. We can't be sure he is unvaccinated. 3. It's possible that an unvaccinated person his age could survive Covid, but his cult followers are drawing all the wrong conclusions from his claim, as intended.
Here is the video & transcript, without commentary (from the above linked @JasonSCampbell tweet.) Keep an eye out for follow up articles with new info about Dennis Prager's claims re Covid. Prager is one of many RW influencers deploying the same schtick.
Before becoming #XGOP on 1/6, I never paid much attention to Prager and his disinformation media outlet @PragerU.
Since almost every national-level GOP politician officially came out as a far right fascist in 2021, I've been reviewing various media outlets in a new light...
When Colin Powell was dating his future wife Alma, he had to travel from NYC to Alabama, during the Jim Crow era. Almost everyone reading this has no idea what that was like for a black guy and girl.
84 years old, so can remember the end of WWII.
Worked for 5 US Presidents.
NB I haven't fact checked that - Powell worked for Nixon, then Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43 and, I assume, Obama. Whether it was 4, or 6 presidents, his experience at the top levels of the federal government was almost unmatched in our time.
With today's coordinated rhetorical attack on the USCP & anyone else targeted by the far right fascist current owners of the Republican party, here's a link to my recent thread on far right ideology & tactics.
And below, I cover an overtly white nationalist a/c I just blocked.
