One piece of misinformation floating about is that #COVID19 vaccines are unnecessary for kids because COVID doesn't affect kids.

*ahem* we disagree. This thread will give you the numbers. 👇🏻🧵 Image
Kids CAN get #COVID, which is just not great for them. Who wants their kid to be sick when a safe #vaccine is free and available to prevent that? Image
In fact, some kids get really, really sick, and it's not entirely predictable which kids will end up in the hospital or the ICU. But we know that people who get vaccinated are less likely to end up in the hospital even if they do get sick: news.northeastern.edu/2021/09/24/how… Image
MIS-C is a complication that can follow COVID infection after a child recovers from the illness. A child will have inflammation of multiple organs that could land them in the hospital. So far, nearly 50 children in the U.S. have died from MIS-C. cdc.gov/mis/mis-c/hcp/… Image
Remember all those learning days kids lost the past two school years? Yeah, that's still happening. Being unvaccinated means kids are excluded from school when they are exposed to #Covid_19 Image
Even if a child has a mild course, they are still at risk from COVID, especially if they pass it on to those at home. So far, 140,000 children have lost their primary caregiver--that's like every child in Wyoming losing a parent. Image
We are not powerless to protect our children! The vaccine is safe and waiting for all people 5 years old and older. #GetVaccinatedNow Image

Again, a cable news host has used an anti-vaccine trope that discourages vaccination. This time "If you are #vaccinated, why do you care if others aren't." This thread explains herd immunity & why high #vaccine uptake matters. #tuckercarlsonmustgo 1/7
The MOST important thing your #vaccine will do is protect you. In this same way, the MOST important thing your car's brakes do is stop your car. 2/7 #ThisIsOurShot #WeCanDoThis #CarGuysImmunize #VaccinesWork
If you are less likely to get sick because you are #vaccinated , you are also less likely to get others sick. You could break the chain of transmission, and your #vaccine protects those around you! (And if your car brakes work, you won't plow into other cars!) 3/7

But look at all these terrible deaths on #VAERS, #TuckerCarlson says? Not so fast! Look at the disclaimer, first. Just because it was reported does not mean #vaccines were the cause!
First of all, let's emphasize that #VAERS is a useful tool, but not for folks looking to confirm their worst fears about #vaccines. It's mostly for the nerds in public health to detect super, super, super rare side effects as early as possible.

One myth about vaccines is that the schedule is ever-expanding, but in truth, a nine-year old today would not have received fewer vaccines than a baby born now. In fact, my sixteen year old got all these vaccines. See replies for more info.
