Fund-raising is a big industry in Alberta. Almost all the phone calls I get are either scams or fund-raisers. I am fed up. Albertans pay enough in taxes that the government should be updating burn units in hospitals, providing supports to families with disabled children...1/5
Supporting amateur sports, helping blind people learn Braille, etc, etc, etc. But no. It seems the money all goes to O&G multinationals, the War Room, pointless Inquiries, "special advisors", Matts, and other UCP pet programs. Enough!
#FireTheUCP 2/5
We pay taxes that the UCP fritters away on pipelines to nowhere, panels that recommend exactly what the UCP told them to recommend, ridiculous levels of staffing (why does Kenney need a Director of Talent or a Tour Manager?) 3/5
And then we are asked to pay again for the things that really matter. It is not right. And I suspect some of the same people who are buddy-buddy with the UCP are also making a tidy profit running fund-raising campaigns. 4/5
I don't know about you, but I feel the UCP and their friends are exploiting Albertans. Double-dipping, not using our tax dollars for things that are important, things that make life better for Albertans. I have had enough. 5/5

Some people seem confused about the difference between progressives and conservatives. Here's an example that might help. Take education. There are those who see education as an investment in the future. Public education has a number of benefits to a society;
1/12
1) Prepares children to become good citizens, with broad understanding of a wide range of things, critical thinking skills, the ability to co-operate, negotiate, and generally get along with others,
2) Provides a baseline of knowledge and skills that are essential for life. 2/12
3) Closes the gap between the wealthy & the poor by ensuring children from poorer families obtain the same education as those from wealthier families.
4) Lays the groundwork for the next generation of professionals/tradespeople/citizens by including all rather than the few. 3/12

This doesn't work! Developers are in the business of making profit. They do not build housing altruistically. So, in this scheme, where are they getting their profits? 1/
Will there be an Ooops! when the houses are done and no one who needs "affordable" housing can afford it? Will the developers be compensated with carte blanche on other, profitable, ventures? 2/
There has to be profit or there is zero motivation for developers to have anything to do with this. 3/

Has anyone noticed the difference in outrage between a white male hockey player being sexually assaulted and any woman of any ethnicity being sexually assaulted? Why is it deemed so much worse? Serious question. #MeToo 1/7
Why is it no one is asking why it took 11 years for this to come out? If a woman reports a sexual assault several years after the fact, everyone questions the legitimacy of her claim. "Why did she wait so long? Why is she coming forward now?" 2/7
What the vodeo coach did was reprehensible, I am not saying it isn't. But how many sexual assault cases can you think of where there was such a wide net cast for anyone who even knew about it, where the victim was a woman? 3/7

One day my 80+ Dad showed up at my house & said, "I am not comfortable driving anymore. Here's my car. You can drive me from now on" and I did. Awhile later he said "I have been paying bills all my life, I'm tired of it. Here's my POA. You look after all that now." And I did. 1/8
It was simple. He just wanted someone else to take on the chores of life to let him enjoy his last years and I was happy to do it. I loved him and wanted him to be happy. It was no burden. 2/8
Seeing my husband debate POA with his siblings and their father, I am so grateful my Dad was proactive. He trusted me, and was happy to relinquish control. It made life so much easier for everyone. 3/8

If you own anything, make sure you have a will. And then make sure you have named a power of attorney who you trust to look after your best interests should anything untoward happen to you. You are not too young to worry about it unless you are a minor. 1/
Currently witnessing my husband's siblings wrangling POA and Executor functions regarding their parents. Set it up while you have all your faculties. Especially if you have young children or dependents. An accident could be catastrophic for more than just you. 2/
89 year old father-in-law about to have heart surgery. Mother-in-law has advanced dementia. No POA at the moment. Considerable debate. Just get over your horror of thinking of your own mortality and make sure the legal framework is in place to look after yourself/dependents. 3/

So, I heard on the radio about Jason Kenney wanting to open the constitution to eliminate equalization payments. 1/15 #cdnpoli #abpoli #AbLeg #Canada

So, aside from the fact that it makes it look like Albertans are a bunch of mean-spirited, cruel, greedy tight-wads, what does this mean? 2/15
Well, the conservatives have been chomping at the bit for quite a number of years now to open the constitution and hack out the bits they don't like. 3/15 Image
