As Alex “the Hatman,” a top TIA moderator & creator of SJIA shared w/ me & confirmed @FDRLST
6 months ago the mods received notifications from Reddit Admin to remove "hateful" anti-LGB content for unspecific reasons on the subs
See some of the receipts I can share below👇
biggest issue Reddit had was the subs allowed Redditors to post “identity invalidation”
or as Hatman told me “Basically, the idea that if we don’t affirm someone’s self-identity, we’re engaging in hate speech,” no matter how serious or silly it may be.
“We were known for not banning people based on their genuinely-held opinions” Hartman said
“As a result, the number of posts about trans-identified people on TIA skyrocketed, & we were considered a ‘TERF-friendly sub’ by those who hated us” thefederalist.com/2022/06/28/red…@brad_polumbo
Following this shock ban,
many moderators for other right-wing subs are worried
Reddit is signaling that no subreddit is safe
Conservative subs like r/PoliticalCompassMemes, r/conservative, or r/@jordanbpeterson could be next
As for the r/TumblerInAction & r/SocialJusticeInAction mods
they stuck to their guns & leave w/ their heads held high
They also carry a warning:
“We simply enforced the global rules as written. We never compromised our values—we always allowed people to speak their genuinely-held opinions, as long as it didn’t cross over into actual, unironic bigotry."
"When the admins told us to go further w/ their unwritten ‘identity invalidation’ rule, we refused, & its possible that refusal is what got us banned in the end. If it is, then we went out w/ our principles intact”
like i said yesterday i get why people are upset about roe or celebrating it, I would hope that people might try to meet in the middle & find some balance
I think that will happen longterm still, but not sure it would be places like Twitter
Most Americans want abortion restrictions for late term, open for the 1rst & are mixed on the 2nd
they hate the idea of abortion but want it to be open for rape & incest
many lefty outlets & journos pointed this out over the years, its a common belief taught in law school & discussed in congress & legislatures across the country
