Welcome to Thursday's daily thread documenting #Russia's war on #Ukraine.

It's Day 169 of the illegal invasion.
If you need a recap of yesterday's events, here's the link to the start of the thread.

The first ship to legally leave #Ukraine's Black Sea ports with food since the war, has still not managed to dock

The #Razoni has now headed back to dock near Mersin on #Turkiye's southern coast. It left #Odesa last week with its cargo of corn, but supposedly cannot find a buyer
Interesting news overnight in #Belarus where around 8 small explosions were reported at the Zyabrovka airfield.

#Russia has taken over this site near #Homel and launched numerous strikes on #Ukraine from here.

Belarus says "an engine fire" was to blame, which seems unlikely.
#Russia's credibility is collapsing says British Intelligence.

The Kremlin's important "defence" export market is in danger of shrinking rapidly because of inability to fulfill orders and nations perhaps seeing it's not as effective in battle as they thought.

#StopRussia
Three civilians have died in #Dnipropetrovsk region as a result of heavy Russian shelling.

The Governor says over 120 grads were fired at #Nikopol alone.

Scores of high rise and residential buildings were hit. 9 others are injured.
You may be interested in this new "infrared" satellite image from the "mystery" explosions in #Crimea

The destruction of #Russia's Saky air base looks even more devastating here. That's some big bang on the occupied territory.
#Ukraine strikes do seem most likely.

#SlavaUkraini
#Ukraine confirms it successfully hit more of #Russia's bases in #Kherson in the last 24 hours.

One of the consequences is likely a loss of power for the Occupiers around #Chaplinka, where one motorist found an unexpected obstruction on the road!

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
#Russia has now seen the deaths of 43,000 military personnel in #PutinsWar of choice, according to the daily figures from #Kyiv.

A well above average 14 Russian tanks were destroyed in the last 24 hours, presumably as various attempted advances in the east were repelled.
#Latvia's Parliament, the Saeima, has voted in favour of recognising #Russia as a State Sponsor of Terrorism.

The statement was passed following Russia's targeted military attacks against the civilian population in Ukraine.

Top trolling from #Ukraine's Ministry of Defence to tourists from #Russia!

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
CCTV footage has emerged of the explosion at the airfield in #Belarus which happened overnight.

As I reported earlier in the thread, this base is completely controlled by #Russia these days and the launchpad for many bombings of #Ukraine.

Is this just an engine fire?
Something strange in #Russia.

Two private Robinson R44 helicopters disappeared in #Krasnoyarsk at the same time. Two tourists are reported to be on board. Both flew from Norilsk to the Putoransky Reserve.

A search is underway but there's no signal from emergency beacons.
The @UN Secretary General urged a safe perimeter to be made around the Nuclear Power Plant in #Enerhodar, to ensure security.

Meanwhile Germany's Environment Minister said they don't have information about any radioactive leak, but the situation is “unclear and dangerous”.
Another safety breach?
Sabotage?

Big addition to #RussiaOnFire collection here.

In #Dolgoprudny, Moscow region, a military base burned down.

Victims and cause both unknown!

#StopRussiaNOW
Britain's Defence Minister has said #Russia is now "unlikely to ever succeed in occupying #Ukraine."

Ben Wallace added that the Kremlin's invasion is now "starting to fail"

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussianAggression
#Ukraine's nuclear energy agency, #Energoatom says Europe's largest nuclear power plant was shelled on four separate occasions today.

#Russia controls the territory but stores weapons and soldiers inside the site. Ukraine argues Russia is trying to weaken the West's support.
Meanwhile the @UN Security Council is meeting in New York to discuss the situation around the #Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in #Ukraine.

Head of @IAEA, Rafael Grossi, called on 🇺🇦 &🇷🇺 to allow its representatives to visit the station as soon as possible.
But 🇷🇺 controls the site!
Former President of #Russia, Dmitry Medvedev allegedly turned up in #Ukraine today.

Whether to boost his image, or sent by Putin, who remained behind in his Kremlin fortress, Medvedev was said to be in #Luhansk for a meeting with leaders of puppet states of #Donetsk and #Luhansk
It really has been a quiet day in #Ukraine, but now things are hotting up in occupied #Kherson.

Maybe it's feeding time for #HIMARS or other western MLRS? #NovayaKakhovka has reportedly seen multiple explosions in the last few minutes.

#StopRussia #KhersonIsUkraine
Just over the Dnipro from #NovayaKakhovka, missiles land in the village of #Vesele.

This is where #Ukraine hit the Kakhovka bridge a few days ago, near the hydro-electric power station.

#SlavaUkraini #StandWithUkraine
Also in #Kherson oblast, one of the funniest things seen today is a "hedgehog" defence deterrent made of wood!

Surely #Russia doesn't really think this will slow #Ukraine's tanks liberating the city does it?

Already problems with the occupiers in #Mariupol'

Workers at the state water utility are on strike - the so called "DPR" has not paid salaries.

Apart from a few vanity projects for show back home, little has changed for residents.

It's Day 1240 of the war in Europe.

It's also Thursday 17 July, a beautiful mid-summer's day, and on this day 11 years ago Russia murdered almost 300 crew and passengers when shooting down flight MH-17 over occupied Ukraine.

The Terrorism never stopped.
Here's the daily thread Image

Wednesday is well worth catching up on if you missed anything from yesterday's🧵

Numerous new Russian war crimes including a sickening town centre attack during evening rush hour, a Latvian mayor injured in the war the maiden flight of Ukraine's Big Bird
Those who made it to the end of yesterday's thread will know that it was a fairly quiet night in the skies, though Dnipropetrovsk region was targeted.

Only 64 drones were fired by Russia, but 36% got through air defences.

36 were shot down, just 5 simulators or stopped by EW. Image

A very warm welcome and thank you for joining me on Day 1239 of Russia's war of choice, Putin's choice to attempt to remove Ukraine from the map and commit genocide on its people.

Every single day I put all the important news in one handy thread. Here is Wednesday's feed:
Yesterday was Ukraine's Day of Statehood.
Kyiv celebrated with successful attacks on military targets in Russia.

But the night saw more huge drone swarm attacks on a number of Ukrainian cities.
Catch up on anything you missed, here:

A series of cities in Ukraine clearing up this morning after night attacks.

Kharkiv, Kramatorsk, Krivyi Rih, Odesa and Vinnytsia were all hit. So far no authorities have reported any deaths overnight, but there are many injuries.

Day 1238 of the all out war, but also 4,162 days since Putin launched his original invasion in Crimea.

It's Tuesday 15 July and the day after a somewhat deflating series of announcements by Donald Trump.

Let's begin THE daily thread..
All international main stream media are headlining Trump's U-turn on Ukraine.

And while they are correct, none has picked apart the announcements which are more like a left-branch than a 180 turn.

Here's where to find yesterday's news:

So Trump has, crucially, for the first time, allowed US weapons to go to Ukraine, so it is a step forward. And while no specifics, let's hope the best long-range weapons are to be given.

But no confirmation about the U.S. using Russia's frozen assets in favour of Ukraine.

Hello on Day 1237 of Russia's 3-day 'special operation' to take Kyiv.

Could this be the day we look back on as the turning point in Ukraine maintaining a united, free, democratic country?

We'll find out in today's thread, so let's begin..
Before we get into today's news and a recap of overnight happenings, here's the traditional link back to the start of the previous day's thread.

Many people out and about on Sundays, so here's your chance to catch up. Click and scroll, then come back!

So why a special day?
@generalkellogg has arrived in Kyiv to convey expected good news.
The sanctions guys - @LindseyGrahamSC + @SenBlumenthal meet with @SecGenNATO + Trump later, with the US President virtually confirming sanctions and releasing Patriot air defence systems:

So Russia is currently 1233 days behind schedule in its expectation to control Kyiv.

I've documented it here every day. Saturday had some more blatant Russian war crimes, starting with more death and destruction.
If you were away from screens, catch up⬇️
Starting with breaking news as Ukraine has announced it has killed the assassins of an Intel officer gunned down in broad daylight in Kyiv a few days ago.

Intel boss Vasyl Malyuk says a special Russian FSB/combat group murdered Col Ivan Voronych.

Hello again and welcome to the weekend and another daily thread. All the important Ukraine news, fact-checked, every single day (never missed one yet).

It's Day 1235 and signs that Russia is becoming increasingly desperate. Let's begin:
Don't know about you, but I was up most of the night documenting another huge Russian attack.

If you missed it, you can catch up on that, as well as the rest of Friday's news by clicking here for the start of yesterday's thread:

23 missiles + almost 600 drones flew from Russia overnight, trying to destroy Ukraine's infrastructure, culture & people.

Air defence did well, shooting down 25 of 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles.
Of 597 attack UAVs, 319 were shot down, another 258 stopped via EW, or decoy drones. Image
