Is it just us or does it feel like we are all starring in #StrangerThings and living in ‘the Upside Down’? We sure are living in stranger times and dealing with unpredictable plot twists almost every other day.
On August 24, 2022, India reported 10,649 new cases of the novel #coronavirus.

While the once-novel disease keeps coming back in waves, it isn’t the only one that the country is battling today. New diseases such as #monkeypox and #TomatoFlu are also plaguing the whole world.
A new infection named #TomatoFlu has been reported from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana & Odisha.

The infection results in tomato-shaped blisters on the body & causes skin irritation, joint pain, diarrhoea, nausea, discolouration of hands, knees and buttocks, vomiting, and fatigue.
While it is yet to be ascertained if it affects only children, the Union Health Ministry has issued a set of guidelines on how to protect children from the infection and its treatment course.

As of August 24, there were 9 active cases of #monkeypox in India, with 4 in Delhi and 5 in Kerala.

Monkeypox starts with an unexplained acute rash. Other symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, fever, headache, body aches and profound weakness.
Swine flu is not a new outbreak, it had first appeared in 2015 and Rajasthan and Gujarat were among the worst-hit states. Around 218 people had succumbed to the #flu back in 2015.

Cases of swine flu or H1N1 flu and monsoon-related diseases are on the rise again in #Maharashtra.
In July, cases of Zika virus spread across Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Punjab and Delhi.

#Zika virus spreads mostly through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes and causes fever, headache, joint pain, red eyes, muscle pain and rash.
As the world grapples with new variants of #COVID19, #TomatoFlu and #monkeypox, there are 200 more active viruses, and bacteria in the air, thanks to climate change, said a report by Nature Climate Change. It could only worsen in years to come.

NASA's #JamesWebbSpaceTelescope have detected evidence of carbon dioxide in a world beyond our solar system.

The planet, called WASP-39 b, is a gas giant orbiting a sun-like star about 700 light-years away, where temperatures are consistently about 900 degrees Celsius.

#NASA
While the planet was first discovered in 2011, Webb's sensitive infrared instruments allowed researchers to analyze it in detail, definitely detecting carbon dioxide there for the first time.

Sanitary pads take 250-800 years to decompose, which is pushing young Indians to opt for greener alternatives

#Sustainability

businessinsider.in/sustainability…

By @karunasharmaa
Every year, around 12.3 billion used sanitary pads are dumped in landfills in India, said a report by the environmental group Toxics Link. Each of these non-organic sanitary pads is equivalent to four plastic bags, and it takes 250-800 years to decompose.

#sustainability
To reduce their carbon footprint on Earth, young #millennials and #GenZ are switching to greener options like menstrual cups, reusable pads, period discs, tampons, period panties, etc. Not only are these alternatives greener but some of them are also cheaper.

#NASA released an audio clip of a #BlackHole, and it's pretty spooky

businessinsider.in/science/news/n…
#NASA recently revealed that black holes emit noises that sound like ghostly alien moans and wails.

Listen to the clip below, where NASA captured the eerie sounds of #blackhole pressure rippling through the Perseus galaxy cluster.

"The misconception that there is no sound in space originates because most space is a ~vacuum, providing no way for sound waves to travel. A galaxy cluster has so much gas that we've picked up actual sound," the @NASA account tweeted.

Shaan Ansari is a 19-year old entrepreneur who lives in the historic city of Panipat, 100 kms north of Delhi, and he may never qualify for any list celebrating under-20 #entrepreneurs, but his story is no less inspiring than #RanveerSingh’s character in Gully Boy.
The pandemic put his father out of work and Ansari out of school. He went scouting for opportunities online that would require zero #investment and found it in Meesho.

Today he manufactures mats from a rented factory, employs 50 people and clocks revenues of ₹30 lakh a month.
